One Thing Stopping You

If you are anything like me, you have an image of the ideal body that you would like.  Maybe there is a friend, family member, actor, actress, model, or athlete that makes you say, “If I only had their body, then I would be so happy!”  But there always seems to be a litany of ‘reasons’ why we could never achieve that same body. 

Come on, let’s list them together:
  • I’m too old
  • I don’t have the time
  • I’ll probably just fail if I start
  • I am afraid of success
  • It’s really hard to be fit
  • I don’t have the money to invest in a program
  • I don’t have any support.  My friends and family are fat and happy that way.
  • I don’t have the space to exercise.
Friend, I am here to tell you today that the ONE thing stopping you from having the ideal body you want are EXCUSES.

That is a short list.  I am sure if you and I sat down, we could come up with many more ‘reasons’ … aka ‘excuses’ on why you can’t have the body you desire.  Since I started my own personal weight loss journey over 10 years ago, I have heard every excuse on the planet except one….. A Good One.   I’m sorry to be the one to break the news to you, but any excuse, big or small, is still an excuse at the end of the day.  Excuses are not your friend!  They are the enemy from you achieving the life you deserve!

I usually define my role as an encourager and a supporter.  I am the cheerleader telling you, ‘If I can do it, so can you!”  But I am doing you a disservice if all I give you is feel-good inspiration without getting down to some tough love nuts and bolts.  You SAY you want to lose weight, be healthier, be more active for your kids, look great for that upcoming wedding, get off your prescription medications, lower your blood pressure, etc.  But when it comes to actually taking a step to get involved, make a commitment and put some skin in the game to start changing, you cling to your list of excuses.

“But you don’t understand Jimmy, my situation is different because….”  I hate to break it to you – YOUR SITUATION ISN’T DIFFERENT.  

You can have excuses or you can fulfill your dreams.

Which one will it be.

Let’s be clear on something.  Not giving in to an excuse does not mean that everyone needs to jump into an extreme program like INSANITY or P90X!  I’m saying that regardless of where you are today, you can start taking steps to get the body you want.  Maybe it’s walking around the block.  Perhaps it’s teaming with me to start one of our beginner level, no-impact programs. 
Or maybe its as simple as caring enough about your health to replace one meal a day with something like Shakeology instead of grabbing another snack from the vending machine at work.  I don’t know where you are today, but I knowyou can start to make little changes.  And don’t say you can’t do it alone because you don’t have to. I am thrilled to help you!

If you continue to go in the direction of the masses, you will have what they have…an obesity crisis that is costing them their money, their health, & ultimately their lives.  Those excuses you hold so tightly to are killing your body and killing your dreams! 
Quit looking for the next ‘secret’ to weight loss.  It isn’t a secret or a super quick fix that will give you what you want, yet so many are willing to spend their hard earned money on the ‘skinny lottery ticket’.  You might as well burn your cash.  It is so simple…

FITNESS + NUTRITION + SUPPORT = LONG TERM HEALTH & SUCCESS

It all starts with your mindset.  You might have already told yourself it isn’t worth your effort to try because you will probably fail.   Why do we fall into this lie???  You have been successful in other areas of your life!  People who sign up for med school don’t do it with the thought that they will probably flunk out.  They have a dream to be a doctor, and are willing to invest in the training they need to be successful.  Perhaps you are successful in your job, as a parent, in your family ….  So you know HOW to succeed already!

And stop waiting for the right time to get started.  ‘After the Holidays’ ‘Once I finish school’ ‘After we move’ ‘When the kids are done with…’  Let me be very clear about something…

SUCCESS DOES NOT COME AT CONVENIENT TIMES!

Do you think it was convenient for me to start my weight loss?  I grew up fat my whole life.  I was a college drop out living back at home with my parents. I was working two jobs and drowning in the debt of two maxed out credit cards.  Let’s count the excuses in that description.  I had to change the way I thought.  I had to decide I was worth it and that God designed me for more than what I currently was.  He designed you to be more too!  What you think so will you speak.  What you speak you will act on.  What you act on you will become!

I’ve been where you are.  I know it can feel hopeless and scary.  I know it’s easy to tell yourself that it is better to stay where you are than to venture out and fail.  But I am telling you from someone who has been exactly where you are today, that taking the first step is SO worth it.  It is so much better on the other side of that fear.  And you don’t have to do this alone.  I am here to help.  I have walked the path you are walking, and I am willing to walk it again with you!

    Great take on excuses holding us back. I call that playing below the line. No point playing there. It only keeps you off your game (and others away from you).
