Do you have a fear of failure? Does this statement sound familiar? “I don’t want to start something if I’m going to fail.”
I think we have all felt like this at some point in our lives. We want to add or change something in our daily routine that we KNOW could benefit us, but the fear of failing ultimately keeps us frozen.
Your current situation may not be ideal, but at least you know your current life and have found some sense of comfort in settling for the daily day-to-day that you know. It’s a classic case of “better the devil you know, than the devil you don’t”. Or at least that is what we tell ourselves to justify actually stepping out of our comfort zone to try something new that may actually change our reality as we know it.
“What if it doesn’t work?”
“What if its too expensive?”
“What if I can’t do it perfectly?”
“What if I don’t like the taste?”
We label statements like these as ‘reasons’ not to start something. After all, if I’m just going to fail, why start something at all….right? I mean, I’d be better off being dissatisfied with my job, life, weight, energy, health, life that to actually do something about it, not do it perfectly, fail and add to my already disappointing life….right?
History is flooded with examples of people that failed MANY times before they ever found success:
- Abraham Lincoln lost multiple elections before eventually becoming president
- Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team
- Henry Ford’s early businesses failed and left him broke five times before he founded the successful Ford Motor Company.
- A newspaper editor fired Walt Disney because, “he lacked imagination and had no good ideas.”
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas Edison
I hear these excuses most often when it comes to people who are reluctant to join one of my challenge groups. The concept is simple. Fitness + Nutrition + Support = Long Term Success and Real Results. Every variable is covered for the reason someone might fail. Not sure what kind of exercise to do? We’ve got you covered with 14 different types of programs to choose from.
For the people who are willing to sweat but constantly drop the ball when it comes to their nutrition, they are covered as well with Shakeology and a customized meal plan depending on their specific workout program and goals. And then there is my favorite: “I want to get fit, I just don’t have the motivation to stick with it”. Again, problem solved! Our challenge groups are filled with people of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels encouraging each other through good days and bad days. And guess what…
I AM IN THIS WITH YOU!!!!
Not only as a Coach, but in my own day-to-day successes and failures. I have days that I slack off on my workouts or indulge in a thick crust pizza! I would be lost without my challenge groups because they push me to be the best version of me I can be. These groups prevent a bad day from becoming a bad weekend. Then letting that bad weekend turn into a bad week that snow balls into a bad three months! You know what I’m talking about – we’ve alllllll been there!!!
How many of us have let that happen. One binge meal of ice cream turns into 6 months of poor choices and an extra 30 pounds???
It can happen to all of us, myself included. Without the proper system and support, no one is immune from failure regardless of how much success we’ve achieved in the past!
Zig Ziglar summed it up best when he broken down F.E.A.R.: False Evidence Appearing Real
The fear of failure we build up in our mind is always much worse than the reality we experience.
So I encourage and challenge you today. Don’t let the fear of failure run your life. We are given only so many days on this planet. Why not push our boundaries, get out of our comfort zones, and truly see what our potential is!
If you are tired of going at it alone and having a burning desire in your gut to make some real changes in your life, then I invite you to partner with me. Let’s help each other get to that next level with encouragement and accountability. This world needs more success stories to inspire others by saying, “Don’t be afraid. I did it, and so can you. So let’s do this together!”
