When people find out that I lost 100 pounds and have kept it off for over 10 years, I get bombarded with questions like:
- How do you stay motivated?
- What do you eat?
- What happens when you fall off the wagon?
- How did you get started?
I love these questions. Change starts by asking questions! If you want to achieve anything in life, find someone who has done what you want to do and find out how they did it.
Today I want to fill you in on a 5 Minute Quick Weight Loss Secret that I haven’t shared with very many people! It’s not complicated. You may be shocked at how simple it is. But just like many other success secrets, simple does not always mean easy! And a knowing a secret and applying its principles are two very different things!
Ok, here it is: Coach Jimmy’s 5 Minute Quick Weight Loss Secret
No, its not a super fast 5 minute Insanity Workout. It isn’t a magic pill that melts away inches in 5 minutes. There is no 5 minute incantation you chant that grows amazing abs.
My 5 Minute Weight Loss Secret comes in my weakest moments. Those days I just do not feel like doing a workout out at all. That long day where nothing sounds better at 4:30pm than a margarita happy hour. The birthday party day at the office where amazing cupcakes are passed out!
That is when I dig deep and give myself 5 minutes to see if I still feel the same.
For example, a Thursday morning when I am just not feeling my 5:30am workout. I tell myself, “Ok Jimmy, go push play for 5 minutes through the warmup. If you still aren’t into it then you can quit.” Or those days that I don’t want to finish that last part of my workout. When your brain is telling you to quit early. I mean, who will know if you skipped that last round of Insanity Ski Abs? Tell yourself that you are going to give it your best for 5 more minutes. Then at the end of that 5 minutes how do you feel?
Or maybe its a food temptation. The morning donuts that your co-workers are enjoying. That mid afternoon sugary pick me up you think you need. Take 5 minutes to really think about what your goals are. Why are they important to you? And will that temporary treat get you closer to that goal or further away?
Once we become mindful of our goals and why we set them it’amazing how the things that usually trip us up no longer have any power! Visualizing yourself looking amazing at the pool during your spring break vacation will trump your lack of motivation. Having enough energy to run around with your kids at their next sporting event becomes bigger and more important than the dessert tray.
When you take that 5 minutes to push through or walk away you immediately empower yourself. It’s an instant self-esteem boost! You strut around with a swagger of knowing that you control your world! You are no longer a slave to outside forces!
