And we are live and here we go! Hey thanks to you for those who are popping in! Thank you for those who are watching the replay right now! Remember if you’re watching the replay you can still tap up the tippy tap parts right here and I’m gonna chill my light out in just a second there and give us some hearts. So thank you guys for popping in right now!
Hey Chloe what’s up? Hey Julie! Thank you guys for checking in! So I got a quick tip for you today and it’s one that I’ve been using for a really long time but I think it’s always important to give credit where credit is due. I consider myself the ultimate student when it comes to student of the game when it comes to business and productivity and getting ahead in areas, which is funny because as a former three-time college dropout, I used to have a belief system that I was a very bad student. I just realized I was in the wrong structure that the formal structure of school and college and the way the traditional world tells you that you’re supposed to learn, I didn’t fit into very well and so I was told, “Hey you’re a bad student.”
As a former three time college drop out, I always thought I was a bad student, but I realized that I didn’t fit into the traditional structure.
Now once I was into business for myself – found the entrepreneurial life, I became the ultimate student. I know very few people that have invested more money and time and learning from industry leaders then I have and I don’t say that to brag or anything, but to say you know look there’s so much information out there that if there’s an area that you’re struggling in, that the information is readily available to you if you’re willing to do the research, if you’re willing to seek the people out that know it; and in a lot of places and times you’re gonna have to invest some time and money to buy their academy or their book or go see them live or something like that.
I consider myself to be the ultimate student when it comes to being a student of the game. I know very few people that have invested more money and time and learning from industry leaders then I have.
And so I’m always a big fan of having mentors and some of those mentors have been people that I have personal relationships with in my life that we literally back and forth phone calls, events etcetera. But I also really believe in having long-term kind of mentors from afar and one of those for me for years now, has been the guy they call Gary Vee. Right, Gary Vaynerchuk and for those of you not familiar with him you may be living under a rock.
Are there any other fellow Gary V fans here on the life scope right now? Gosh yes Sara loves him! Great guy right straight shooter, he’s gonna tell you exactly how it goes, he can be tough, there’s a lot of tough love that come from Gary but what I love about it is that he really does lead with a service and with how he could help others. You gotta follow him he’s here on periscope and he’s Gary V E E Gary Vaynerchuk on YouTube some of his videos – I mean he just putting out so much content now the, “Ask Gary V Show” Umm now you’ve heard of him Jess and you need to go look him up and he is awesome! Thank you for the shout out Kimmie.
So you know I’ve been building my home business now for eight years and there’s one tip that I go back and give Gary a lot of credit for helping me build my business because no matter what your business is if you are a brick-and-mortar if you are selling your own products like an ebook or something online a service, if you are in a network marketing business or other kind of home business or affiliate marketing, it comes down to finding customers. You have to find people to serve, and if you’re not constantly finding new people you’re lost, your behind, you lose.
“I don’t know anybody, I run out of people to talk to” and that’s just bunk! I can’t keep up with how many people that I’m helping and serving and that’s where you should be with where we are today in this.
I mean that’s really as simple as it is, so how can you use this awesome technology that you and I are using right now to find new people right to continue to find – I hear that all the time people that I mentor they’re like, “I don’t know anybody, I run out of people to talk to” and that’s just bunk! That’s it! If you know the skills and if you put in the work, you never run out of people – In fact, it should be the opposite! I can’t keep up with how many people that I’m helping and serving and that’s where you should be with where we are today in this. I’m gonna tell you really quickly how you can constantly find people. If you ever find yourself in that situation, if you’re like, “I’m trying to build this business but I’ve run out of people to talk to, I don’t know who else to serve. I’ve run – my list is out!”
One quick tip that I learned from Gary Vaynerchuk, so I was introduced to Gary – I don’t know how many years ago now but his very first book was called “Crush It,” and he shared right he shared how he took his parents – his dad owned a liquor store right and he wanted to take that online and his dad was kind of skeptical, he was an old school Russian immigrant, and didn’t really know about the whole online world. This is back in like ‘90 – who wrote it? Gary Vaynerchuk the guy that I’m talking about wrote “Crush It” and he talked about how he took an online and blew up this business into a multi million dollars of things and what did was he used Twitter – primarily back then as his gateway to find people and what’s so funny is this exact tip still works today and so few people use it.
Most of people of the people I talk to and I talked about this they go, “Oh I don’t really do Twitter, I don’t get Twitter,” I feel like Twitter been around forever and it’s still like the big mystery social media to so many people. I love Twitter because to me it’s the equivalent – it’s like going to a cocktail party right and so you can just kind of pop around and chit chatting and having conversations with people. So this is what Gary shared, he literally would go on to Twitter but not like just regular Twitter, he would go to go to search.twitter.com and so if you’re taking notes, you want to make sure you do this.
You’re gonna go to search.twitter.com and he literally would put in you know a conversation like what were people talking about the he would want to serve instead of hoping that a conversation he was in, turned towards his business. He would put in you know people that are already talking about wine; they were talking about Chardonnay and Cad and Riesling or whatever and he would pop in it answer those people’s questions. He said he would spend hours a day on Twitter just answering questions, just giving value, giving service to other people right?
Everything we do in business has to start with a service, it has to start with a service attitude and from place of just giving.
And why did he do that? Well number one, everything we do in business has to start with a service, it has to start with a service attitude a place of just giving you know nobody wants to do business with those people that obviously are coming at you with dollar signs in their eyes, looking to pitch you stuff. You don’t like to do business with people like that; I don’t like to do business with people like that. But if I’m coming and just giving you value, eventually people are going to go over his profile and say, “Man this cat is really cool, he is continually giving out like – who is this guy like answering on my awesome wine questions? Oh look on his Twitter profile he has a wine show or he sells his own wine blog, let’s go check that out.
People do business with people they like and trust and there’s not a faster way to establish trust and likability with your audience than giving value. You and I have a connection right now, you trust me there’s a likeability factor right here, the fact that your own my scope, you’re tap it up right here you’re giving up hearts. Why? Because I’m sharing the tip with you right? I’m coming straight up and going, “Here is a super-secret that really isn’t a secret, that I used and it’s so simple that literally allowed me to build a seven-figure business.” So what do I do? You know being in the health and fitness space, when I first was starting that’s what I did. I would get on Twitter and answer health and fitness questions you know just boom for people that were struggling losing weight or struggling staying motivated.
People do business with people they like and trust.
Now I do the same thing the business space. People looking to build a home business or do something online to get into the entrepreneurial space, my passion right now I still coaching people through health and fitness, but my real passion now is to help people create lives of freedom when they’re not – I just say “no to the cubicle” is really what I say. It’s like create a life where you can work wherever you want to or however you want. If you wanna fill your day with 18 hours hustling for something you love, to do that, but make it something you love. Don’t make it because you’re working in a cubicle building somebody else’s dream right do something for you!
I gotta go back to one of Gary’s very first speeches that kinda put him on the scene. He jumps on there and told people, “Hey quit doing stuff you hate! So many of you people are wasting time doing things you hate!” With the tools and everything – and that was years ago when it’s so much more true, now if you are in a spot where you’re in the rat race and you hate what you’re doing and your career is sucking the life out of you, and you’re drowning in debt, then change it! Then move and do something else you know and it’s gonna take some research.
What does that mean for you? Is it writing that book? Is it producing that music album, is it created that online course? Maybe it’s something easy or simpler to jump into like a home business or network marketing thing where your helping to market somebody else’s products right? Or you don’t have the overhead and stuff, that’s how I got into the entrepreneurial space. Some people say, “Well that’s not really starting your own business.” For me it was because I was an independent contractor and it allowed me to market a product and a business that I completely believe in because the products change my life, and allowed me and my family to live this life of freedom where we jump around.
I’ll be spending almost the entire month of October in San Diego. Why? Because I’m gonna to go to three straight business things out there and I decided hey well I’m just gonna stay out there you know, and in the past if I had been a traditional job where I am building somebody else’s dream, I wouldn’t have that.
So back to Gary really quick, “Crush It” it’s a super super great book! And that book is probably little dated now, but I always say you can get an audio book because he’s so captivating to listen to. His second book “The Thank You Economy” complements it so well because literally it teaches you how to use the technology of today to deliver the customer service that our grandparents experienced, you know the old-timey amazing customer service the forties and fifties and early sixties and stuff like that, where you know you go into your store and the guy would know your name, and they have your regular, “ Hey you want the usual?”
The Thank You Economy literally teaches you how to use the technology of today to deliver the customer service our grandparents experienced.
They had that really super attention to detail, that still available to do for your people that you want to serve today. Then last but not least and John just said it right there is jab jab jab right hook! What I like about that, is it’s a great case study book; and literally if you’re like, “Hey I don’t know what makes a good facebook post, what makes a good Twitter post or why does this work on on Pinterest.” It literally splits the book up into different social media, you know you’re like, “Ok cool.” I’m gonna pop up today, I’m working on understanding Facebook and pop it up for the Facebook chapter and look at a little picture – case studies of what makes good posts and what makes bad post right? He’s working on another book right now, his “Ask Gary V” book, but I just wanted to – you know I love to teach and I learned so much, but it’s only because I’ve had awesome teachers and I just really feel like as I teach, it’s important for me to give credit where credit is due.
You know I would say Gary and I never met, but that’s not true. We met on two different occasions, but he doesn’t know me from Adam. But, he’s had a huge impact on my business and so I feel like it’s important if I felt it’s something that has work for me, that I want to share it with you. I’m gonna show you where I found it right and so it’s so simple and so use that tip, tell me about it! Tweet me @thecoachJimmy as you’re going through search.twitter.com and whatever it is that you’re in, you’re in real estate, you’re in dry cleaning, you’re selling, I don’t know what your business is, health and fitness whatever businesses that you think about. What it is that your ideal customer is one of the questions that they’re asking? What is it that they need and then start typing those terms into Twitter and see the conversations people are already having in a public forum that you can jump in and be their hero, like they’re looking for answers and you can be there superhero that flies in and goes, “I know the answer to that question” right, because this is my level of expertise.
Now one last tip makes sure that whatever you put, you could use the exact same thing on Instagram too. You can use the search function on Instagram and do the same thing and comment under people’s pictures but just make sure that your bio -when somebody goes, “Wow that cat is cool because they solved my problem,” and I go back to your bio. I wanna know something about you, I wanna know how can I do business with you, how can I work with you more? Can I go to your website and get your free report? You have a free video series or you have something else of value where I can do more work with you; maybe you’re just putting them back to maybe your Facebook page or its blog or your YouTube channel or something where I can learn more about how to work with you.
Once you show me value, once you and I connect I’m like, “like her” man that was really helpful. What else does she do? Maybe she can help me in some other way where I’m willing to not only work with you more, but I’m probably reaching for my wallet to go here take my money because I want to work with you. Because at the end of the day its not only about adding value, but it’s also about building your business and when you build your business there’s an exchange of goods and services right? And there’s nothing wrong with that because I’ll happily give up money for something of value that will help me solve a problem or get better in an area.
So guys I just wanted to jump on here real quick and thank you so much for the interaction here and following me on periscope and I thank you for the follow. I thank you for those who have shared this and I thank you for the constant hearts. Make sure that you go follow my man Gary Vaynerchuk, he’s giving constant value of the time and I just want to get – this is my way of telling him thank you as I go forward and I look forward to hearing from you on how you’re finding people on Twitter with search.twitter.com, who you’re serving? And let me know how your business is building and growing as well. Here’s to you and here’s to your business! I’m Coach Jimmy and we’ll talk soon!
