Your Business Starts at Diamond
Alright, Facebook live! We’re back at it! Day number 2! I told you I was coming strong in 2016. I am training because I feel like that’s my gift and what I’m supposed to do and I really enjoy this so I don’t know that 9 o’clock in the morning is perfect for everybody, but that’s when I’m going to do this.
So as you’re coming in, say hello in the comments section. Yesterday, we talked about goal setting and it was kind of for anybody. Today, I will be speaking a little more towards my fellow Beachbody Coaches so if you have a team page or you have other Coaches that you think need to be on this thing, share this with them real quick, say hi to me in the comments, let me know how long you’ve been a Coach. I’m gonna jam to some Justin Timberlake and we’re going to start in just a second.
Brandy Martin has joined the conversation! Newly full-time Coach Brandy Martin.
Hi Gabrielle Hunt, welcome!
So, we’re talking about raising the bar. We talked goal setting yesterday and if you guys missed yesterday’s video, you can scroll here on my page, you can see yesterday’s video.
Shawn is here. Joyce is here. I got a lot of my team here, I like this!
Hi Brandy Martin.
So. Jess Petty John, there’s my best friend that I haven’t talked to in forever. Hi! Welcome!
Sharee is here. Amber, my little rockstar is here. Awesome. Awesome.
We’re going to get started. We’re going to let just a few more people pop on especially because I realized that I only have a 30 minute window!
No Amber, you got work to do today girl! You ain’t goin back to sleep after this. Jack is here. Candace. Awesome. Thank you guys for sharing. Thank you guys for spreading the word that I’m going to be doing this.
I have my alarm set for 9am and I just want to give back to this community. You guys have been so good to me, I just want to give back however I can and I want to give back in almost 9 years of experience, I feel like I have some things that I can share. I feel like there are some things that aren’t being shared that I think are common knowledge that I’m realizing new people, new entrepreneurs aren’t getting all the fundamentals and all the foundation, right?
So, as much as I love jamming to Justin Timberlake, we’ll kill Justin and get started.
Raising the bar in 2016
Welcome! My name is Coach Jimmy. I’m coming to you live from Dallas, Texas. Today’s talk is literally going to be specific on Beachbody Coach training. Now, you may have another home business that you’re in or another kind of entrepreneur, I’m going to encourage you to hang out anyway because I’m sure that there’s something that’s going to be said today that you can apply even if you’re not in my business. That’s totally cool!
You guys have been so good to me, I just want to give back however I can and I want to give back with almost 9 years of my experience.
I happen to have a lot of friends here on Facebook that are Coaches and like I said, this community has been so good to me that I want to find different ways to give back and to strengthen the community from the top to the bottom regardless of experience level.
I have been in this business now for a little over eight years going on nine years this year, it will be nine years this summer. Prior to getting started in this business, I had very little success rate. I had nothing that said, “Wow, this guys is going to be really, really good at this business.” I was a three time college dropout and in my mid-twenties, I found myself 100 pounds overweight, dropping out of college, moving back in with my parents, and I had really given up on any dreams, goals, desires that I had.
And I share that with you because I think it’s really easy to look at people on social media and say, “Oh, you’ve always been good at this. This comes so naturally to you.” and none of those things could be further from the truth. What you see before you or if you followed me is a consistent showing up and growing every day and just being willing to find ways to mess this up everyday in business. In fact, I just posted an image on my Instagram account that basically said that, “You have to show up even when there’s no applause” and so today you have a list of duties and things that you need to do today that nobody’s going to be behind you patting you on the back telling you that you did a good job.
Don’t rely on others to motivate you
I have just recently been reminded that if we’re doing certain things just to be patted on the butt and told good job and how cute we are and that we’re pretty, 9 times out of 10, you’re going to be disappointed. You’re not going to get the recognition and the attaboy or the attagirl that you feel like you deserve.
You probably do deserve it.
Absolutely! If you’ve busted your tail and you’re showing up every day, absolutely! But I was just reminded…again I’m learning lessons all the time that the things that I teach are out of the overflow of what I’m going through and if you’re waiting and you’re like, “Gosh, I’m gonna hit this thing and my team is really going to recognize this,” or “My spouse is really excited because I earned that first check,” or because “I advanced in rank,” or “I lost those 5 pounds,” or whatever it is that you’re really celebrating and then all of a sudden you’re like, “Well, nobody celebrated this with me.”
Welcome to the world of the entrepreneur.
Welcome to the world of you have to find ways to celebrate some of these things regardless of if you get them externally.
That can be very discouraging at times. Recently, my team and I hit an extremely big milestone that I’ve been working 8 years for. While I’m super proud of it, there was a bit of a lack of fanfare, I guess? I don’t know what I was expecting. When you get to the other side of it and you’re like, “Oh.” You get a few, “That’s great!” or you get a text message. I received one phone call from somebody actually picking up a phone, I know that nobody does that anymore actually picks up a phone and talks to people.
Recognition is important. In fact, the lesson that I learned through this is that I want to do better by my team and do a better job of recognizing them.
So for me, I was like, “Oh, okay.” So if I was just relying on somebody else patting me on the head or patting my bum and saying, “Hey. Great job. Super good.” If that was what I was doing it for then I totally would have been disappointed. I totally would have been disappointed in that.
I had to remind myself that I have to set other goals for what can I celebrate? What is going to be awesome regardless of if I get applause or regardless of if I get any external recognition because so many of us are recognition oriented. It’s so easy in this social media world to go, “Hey, my spouse didn’t celebrate me enough. My sponsor, I felt like they should have done more. They should have picked up the phone. I barely got a mention or whatever.”
And don’t get me wrong, recognition is important. In fact, the lesson that I learned through this is that I continue to want to do better for my team and to do better things of recognition. Now, I feel like we do a pretty good job of recognition and a lot of my team is on here and hopefully they can vouch for that with our trips and prizes and shout outs and phone calls and time.
I’ve just realized that that’s not exactly why everything has to drive, but today I want to talk about raising the bar in 2016. We talked about goals yesterday and about how important it is. I shared this list with you that was colored on by my 4 year old, the 10 goals I set last year and how we achieved each one of those. It was the first year I’ve ever done that in different areas that it was like financial and business and fitness and spiritual and environment and financial, I may have already said financial. We literally knocked off that list.
I still have to make my list for 2016, but I want to specifically talk to those of you in my business. The Beachbody Coaches that are running an online business to help people improve their health and fitness or maybe you’re watching this and you’re not a Coach, but you don’t exactly understand how it works and you’re into fitness.
If you’re into fitness and you’re like, “Well, I’m hustling in the fitness world, but I’m not making a ton of money and these Beachbody Coaches are.” Stick around. Maybe you’re not interested in fitness at all, but you have a mind to build some kind of online business or just increase your income in 2016. I’m going to encourage you to stick around through the end of this because you’re going to pick up something that you’re going to want to do.
So I’m going to use some jargon today that you’re going to be like, “I don’t know what that means. What does that rank mean?” That’s fine and if you get to the end of this and you’re like, “I’d like to know more about this,” and you have a friend that’s a Beachbody Coach, reach out to them and say, “Hey dude. I listened to this dude from Dallas just go on this tirade today about goal setting and what’s possible and I’d like to know a little more about that.” Absolutely! It’s worth you getting to know if this is for you or not.
Never stop learning
I think it’s always so funny when I talk to people about my business and they say, “I’m not interested.” And I’m like, “Well, what do you know about what I do?” and they don’t know anything about what I do, but they’ve already decided that it’s not for them. At least educate yourself. Whatever you do in life, before you dismiss something, educate yourself and then you can go, “Oh, this is for me. This isn’t. Here’s a little piece.”
So, Coaches. I’m talking to you.
When I got into this early on, there was no training. There was no Facebook live. There were no streaming audio where I could sit in and look into the office of a seven figure earner and listen to them give tips all day long like I’m doing for you guys this morning. There was a timeline to hit certain milestones in this business that were really drawn out. Really super drawn out.
Set deadlines that make you sweat
For instance, we used to have a training called 90 Days to Diamond. 90 Days to Diamond and when you think about that, that’s 3 months. That’s taking an entire round of P90X to get to Diamond. It was a pretty solid training, but what’s so funny is with the advent and the growth of social media, the way that we can connect like this so much it’s been amazing to watch some of these timelines shrink and I spoke on this a little bit yesterday about how I see too many people making safe goals.
When I was listing those goals out, I said to not set a goal that’s just going to happen naturally just by waking up every day that, “Hey, if I don’t die I’ll probably hit this goal.” That’s not something that’s going to push you out of your comfort zone.
Your goals should make you a little nervous.
So, like I said and I’ll go back. My team and I just became a superstar team at the end of December which is the highest rank that somebody can reach in our business. That goal, because it was the one goal I had that wasn’t just reliant on me, it was about me working with a team of people, made me extremely uncomfortable. Extremely uncomfortable because I had to find a way to not only put my effort in, but how do I rally a group of about 17 or 18 people and all get us moving in the same direction. I had to put a timeline on that because in order for us to do that because for us to do that before the end of December, I had to count out like six weeks before then because you had to hold the rank to hit it by Christmas Eve.
Keep building on your momentum
So Christy Weiler was a part of that. Amber’s on here and she was a part of that and it’s been awesome! What I’m hoping is that the people that were a part of that, that that momentum carries and that now is not the time to just exhale and go, “That was great.” I did that last week. I took a week off, but now it’s time to set the next scary thing.
If you’re a Coach and you’re setting goals for this year, 90 Days to Diamond doesn’t cut it anymore guys. I just saw somebody hit Superstar in under two years and in this business, it’s very easy to play the comparison game. I got caught in that a little bit yesterday and went, “Oh, wow. These people have been in this less time than I have and they’re making more money. Their teams are bigger. They have a bigger rank.”
It’s this balance of not playing it safe and not getting caught in the comparison game, but you have to realize why are you setting this goal. For me, I really believe in our business and, if I can talk specifically to the Beachbody Coaches right now, your business starts at Diamond. It used to be people like that your business started at Emerald, but maybe that was the case five years ago, it’s not the case anymore. I really believe that your business as a business owner if you’re treating this as a business, which you should be because you are a business owner, you get tax write-off benefits the minute you sign up you’re an independent distributor. You own your own business and all the cool perks that come with being a business owner.
If you look at that and as a business owner you should educate yourself. What does that mean?
You’re a business owner, act like it
You should know about the products.
You should know about what the promotions are this month.
You should know how you qualify for the 2017 trip to the Dominican Republic.
You should know these things. You should be registered to go to a Super Saturday or a Super Sunday this weekend because they’re all over the country, so there’s one near you, and if you don’t know where these things are, this is where as a business owner you start taking some responsibility on yourself.
You go to the back office. You go to the FAQ at the bottom of that page. You try to look it up and do it yourself first. If you still can’t find it, that’s when you go to your team page or your sponsor, but I’m really going to encourage you…why do I say that this thing starts at Diamond?
It starts at Diamond because you immediately unlock all the ways to earn money. I think there are 8 different ways to earn money as a Coach and all of those, to some extent, are unlocked at Diamond. Matching bonuses are unlocked at Diamond. You’re making the most you can per cycle.
Like I said those of you that aren’t Coaches on here, this may be a little bit Greek to you so just bear with me, but we have a rank called Diamond rank where all the ways you can make money are unlocked at Diamond.
Matching bonus, people forget about matching bonuses that anybody that’s on your team that’s Emerald or above that’s making a cycle bonus, you start making 10% of that and so, as a business owner, even if you got into this thing just for the health and fitness, even if you got into this thing and you’re just in it for the discount, isn’t it worth your time to educate yourself? Most of the time when people go, “I’m just in this for the discount,” I find that it’s a defense mechanism because they don’t want to take the time to learn because if they saw how simple the system can be and saw what’s possible for them and their life, I don’t know anybody that wouldn’t move forward with this.
That’s when I share my story. Three time college dropout, was well over $60,000 in debt, I was able to bring my wife home from her job, we were able to pay off that debt, we created a savings account, all these things because when I got into this thing, I didn’t do it thinking that I was going to build a huge business. All I knew was that these products helped me lose 100 pounds, I had never felt better in my life, it was a really cool community, and I wasn’t going anywhere.
This is where as a business owner you start taking some responsibility on yourself.
For the first almost two years of this business, I didn’t treat it like a business. I didn’t learn about it because it just seemed so overwhelming, and for those of you that have been through any of my trainings that’s the ‘o-word’ I can’t stand. Educate yourself. Take 5-10 minutes a day and educate yourself on this business and I’m going to guarantee you that as you start reading testimonials and hearing more about this that you see that this is doable for anybody.
Stop with the excuses
I don’t care how busy you are. I don’t care what your background is. I don’t care whatever bullshit lie you’re telling yourself that you say that you can’t do this. “I don’t have time. I don’t have money. I don’t like to sell. I don’t like to push products.” All that stuff, it’s just hogwash because if you will plug in and learn how to do this, it’s none of those things. In a lot of ways, it’s stuff you’re already doing, you just don’t know how to do the next step.
People are going to tell you ‘no’ and that’s okay!
Diamond is where it all starts at so you need to set yourself a goal to be Diamond in the next 30 days. Really in the next 30 days, you should be a Diamond Coach and why do I say that? You’re like, “Whoa, Jimmy. Diamond.” It’s because you’ve made Diamond this giant mountain in your head. I’ve seen coaches do this with Emerald which is really just helping two people get started, but as a Diamond Coach, at the end of the day, that’s 12 people. 12 people that you’ve helped get started on the same journey that you’re already on.
Keep sharing your story
Obviously, you found value in this so you got started. The least you can do is share, “This is why I got started.” Now, I’m going to tell you this, people are going to tell you no. People are going to have their preconceived notions of what this is and what this isn’t, people are going to tell you why they can’t do this, and that’s okay! It’s totally okay! This isn’t for everybody. I shared the list of the coaches that got started in business with me this last year and as I went through this list, you guys start seeing that like half the people who got started with me last year already quit.
You know, I used to take that really personally and what I realized that that’s not my responsibility. I’m responsible to individuals to give them the information, to train them, to help them get started, but I’m not responsible for their actions and any of my Coaches that are here on this chat right now will tell you that. That I am super fair when it comes to making sure that you have the information, that you know where the answers are, to know what the systems are, but I am not responsible for them to come do it for them.
You have to do the work
That would be like somebody buying something like INSANITY and letting it sit on the shelf over there and saying, “Aw, I’m not losing any weight,” and so I come to their house and do power jumps for them.
Who’s going to get more fit? Me!
Are they going to get fit? No!
They have the system. They have the DVDs and the book and everything to follow, it’s the same thing with this business guys.
So helping 12 people get started is only daunting if you make it daunting. For those of you that have been on my playbook trainings, I pick a couple Saturdays a month and I do 3 hour long trainings and I take you through everything that I do and the first thing that I encourage people to do before they get on my training is that I have a video where I walk them through a memory jogger and it’s making a list.
I’ll tell you that 80% of the people, probably higher than that, don’t even do that exercise. They don’t make this list of people and I tell them that they’re making this list and these people are not the people that are going to join your business. What they do is they sit down, if they sit down with the video, they take out pad and pen, and I start going through the memory jogger and they have names that come into their heads, and then they go, “Oh, nope, because that person wouldn’t be interested.”
Be willing to “bother” people
They start pre-judging and saying ‘no’ for people, which is so unfair, because I look at it this way. What if my sponsor had pre-determined that I was a ‘no’ before she shared with me?
“Hey, this guy’s a three time college dropout, this guy has no business experience, he doesn’t know how to build an online business, he’s way too busy as an actor, I see that he’s hustling around New York City all day long, he’s married…”
Somebody really easily could have pre-judged whether or not this was for me and I heard a quote recently from somebody building this business because you hear, “I don’t wanna…I don’t wanna bother somebody…I don’t wanna bother somebody…” and I will echo this quote that I heard and it’s, “Thank God somebody was willing to bother me with this.”
Had I not been “bothered” by somebody asking me to take a look at this thing, I really shudder to think about where I would be. I would not be sitting in a home that we moved into now almost 2 years ago that I love. I wouldn’t have my wife home now that we have a brand new baby girl. I’m not running off to an office today. I get to spend my entire day with my family. My son, my wife, my baby girl, my in-laws are here, we’re all in the house just chillin and kicking it today. We’re not in debt anymore. We have a savings account. This life of freedom that I get to enjoy, I wouldn’t be! Oh my gosh, I know that I would be fat and broke and miserable and probably divorced had somebody not “bothered” me with this.
Thank God somebody was willing to bother me with this.
I encourage people to write this list down. The second thing to remind you about this list is I was at a training early on in my career…I take that back, at this point our business had grown because it was part of what the trainer asks to do. We were in a home business seminar and the trainer asked in the room, “How many people are making six figures with their business?” and there was a smattering of us that stood up, maybe 12 in a room of 500. It really wasn’t a big amount and she said, “How many people were encouraged to make a list when they got started?” out of those people that were standing up and we were like, “Yup. Yup. Yup.” And she said, “Okay, stay standing if you actually reached out to all those people on your list,” and I think that only one or two sat down.
So that shows you that in a room of 500, 10 six figure earners, what was the secret to their success? That they did the work.
It’s easy to go to the seminar. It’s easy to sit here on this video chat and get really excited and get pumped up. It’s easy to go to Summit or go to the Super Saturday or to watch the video or to watch Carl on the Surge and get so motivated. I’m going to tell you that motivation is so overrated. I’m going to write that down. You’ll see that as a quote. Motivation is overrated. It just is guys because people use motivation as such a crutch.
I don’t care if you’re motivated. I don’t care if you feel like doing it. It’s the same thing as your workouts, with your nutrition, with drinking your shakeology, with doing your business. If you’re not willing to show up every day whether you feel like it or not, you’re not going to get ahead in this. You’re so not going to get ahead in this and so you have to decide, “Yes, I’m showing up.”
What was the secret to six figure earners’ success? That they did the work.
One of the decisions I made really early on as a Coach and I don’t know that it was a conscious decision, but, and I alluded to it a little bit ago, was that I didn’t get into this thing thinking that I was going to build a big business. I got in because I had lost 100 pounds with the programs, I had found a community of people that believed in me more than I believed in myself at the time, and I thought, “Wow, I’m a better person for being a part of this than I am outside of this. I’m not going anywhere.”
Quitting isn’t an option
What I did unknowingly was that I took the option to quit off of the table. Perfect example, I had a guy that signed up last year and we were doing his get started chit chat and he was like, “Yeah, I think I’m going to give this six months and try it out,” and I had a mentor that used to say that, “If you get into this business to check it out, this business will check you out.”
Don’t get into this thing to check it out or to try it or to give it a shot. I made the decision early on that I was in this thing and that I was a lifer. If I never made a dollar, if I never…this was well before these two DVDs, none of that. I made a decision at the beginning that I was in this thing for life regardless.
Why? Because it was worth my time and energy to be around these positive people. I was a better person for being around these products. I knew that if I was in this community that I was going to stick with these programs because I’d already seen it. I had days where I didn’t feel like working out on my 100 pound weight loss journey. I had days where I fell off the wagon and went on some bender, but I got back on because of the community.
What happens when you take ‘quit’ off the table and that’s not even an option to cancel or quit or anything like that, you free yourself up so much in this business because people put too much pressure on themselves. There’s two forms of learning…I can’t believe that I only have 30 minutes and that we’re already at 25…there’s two forms of learning, there’s learned knowledge which is what you’re doing right now. You’re watching a training video, learned knowledge, and then there’s applied knowledge and there’s probably 2% of you guys that go apply any of this.
You’re going to get off this video chat, you’re going to feel so good and so motivated, and then I can check with you tomorrow and say, “Hey. Did you go through that Memory Jogger and make your list?”
“No.”
And if you made your list, “Did you reach out to anybody today?”
“No.”
Treat this like a business
These are the things you do to build your business. It’s not just about taking sweaty selfies. It’s about reaching out, engaging with people, having conversations, what you do with that list once you have that list. I use that list as a jumping off point. Those people are going to help me find the people that I get to help.
I had a mentor that used to tell me, “Look, I don’t push my business on anything. I don’t peddle products. I am only looking for the people that are looking for me,” and I’m going to repeat that again for those of you that are taking notes. “I am only looking for people that are looking for me.”
So I’m going to say, “Hey, look. (Maybe I reach out to a friend of mine.) Hey, I can see that you’re really into fitness, would you be interested in learning how I help people make more money online with their passion for fitness?” Yes or no”
“Hey. Can you take a minute to watch an 11 minute video and let me know if this makes sense to you.”
“Hey. I noticed that you seem really busy with the kids or your work or you seem beaten down. I work with people and help busy people make some extra income part time so they don’t have to be as busy. Would you be willing to take a look at something to see if it makes sense for you?”
If they say no, “Thanks. Absolutely, no sweat. No problem, I understand that it’s not for everybody. Hey, look. I’m just looking to help some people. 2016 my goal is to help 12 people in the next 30 days get started, do you know anybody this might be appealing to? I really appreciate you taking the time.”
I am only looking for people that are looking for me.
And that way, you never feel like you’re pushing…honestly guys, I don’t even get into objection handling anymore with people because I don’t want ot have to drag somebody into this. I hear this all the time. “Oh, if I can just convince so-and-so to get on my team.”
I am not in the convincing business.
If I have to convince you to join, then I have to convince you to maintain. I have to convince you to drink your Shakeology. I have to convince you to do the work. I don’t want to do that. I want to work with people that see this potential, that see this as the way to the lifestyle that they deserve. Some of you guys are hustling your ass off right now, but you’re just in the wrong direction. You’re just not doing the things that you need to do.
People say, “Jimmy, you’re so motivating.” Not really. You know who I motivate? I motivate the doers. I really motivate the people that are already motivated. Like I said, motivation’s overrated. I am about giving steps to the doers. That’s who I want to work with in 2016. I will share my answers all day long if you will take baby steps with me. Boom boom boom.
The minute you stop or, my buddy Dave Ward says this when he talks to the people that he mentors, that the minute that we have the same conversation twice, there’s an issue. There’s an issue there because if we have a conversation and I give you some steps and you don’t take those steps and I come back around and say, “Hey, did you take those steps?” and you go, “Aw, no,” then we got a problem because you’re not taking steps with me anymore.
The other thing I tell my team is that if you want to walk with me, I will walk with you. If you want to run, I will run with you. But if you disappear, I won’t chase you and I spent the first few years of my career chasing people. “Hey, are you okay? Where did things go?” and I go into that further in my Playbook Trainings and I’m going to be doing another one coming up pretty soon.
I give up 3 hours of a Saturday and I teach you everything you need to know about this business and I talk about how engaged Coaches are successful Coaches and what to do when you find yourself fallen off the wagon and nobody’s going to chase you, how do you jump back in. I teach that as well.
Make your own motivation
If you really do feel like you need some motivation, you can go to 5DaysFire.com, the number 5 days fire, I literally broke down into 5 steps the 5 things I did to create my own motivation to lose 100 pounds. The things I did to create my own motivation to build a 7 figure business instead of waiting for some external thing to motivate me, I figured out the 5 steps you need to do to make it for yourself. So any time that you find yourself unmotivated, you can do that.
We’re at the last 10 seconds guys, I really appreciate this. The cool thing about this is that if you found value in this video, share it. We’ll talk again soon. Take care.
