Dream Big, Act Small
Dream big, act small is my new mantra. What do I mean by it? I’m glad you asked.
I’ve talked to thousands of people over the last 8 years as a Coach and I keep hearing how hard it is for them to hit their goals. Whether it’s a weight loss, training, or business development goal, it just stays out of their reach or they lose steam along the way. Naturally, my first question for them after hearing this is, “Well, what’s your goal?” and it’s some pie in the sky goal like losing 100 pounds, making a million dollars by 30, or owning a Ferrari.
Now, don’t get me wrong, these big goals are awesome to have as that light at the end of the tunnel, but they’re terrible if that’s the only goal you have. Because you have a singular that may be months or years away, until you’ve achieved it, you’re not getting any closer to it. That’s why I dream big and act small.
The core of my mantra is that you put that great big dream on the shelf and break it down into smaller goals and milestones that you can do tomorrow or next week. Why is that? Because they’re reachable and they give you these little wins along the way to your destination that keep you on that road to success.
Other people might look at you accomplishing these seemingly insignificant goals and say “Big deal. That’s not impressive.”, but guess what? You’re gaining momentum inching closer to your goals while they’re spinning their wheels trying to tear you down.
These small wins may not be “sexy”, but they get you moving and they keep you hungry for more. Like J.J. Watt says, “Success isn’t owned. It’s leased and rent is due every day.”
