I sat down to write this post at 10am. My intention was to knock this post out first thing, then make my way on to the other things on my to do list…. Oh, but I first I needed to jump on my Facbeook page to answer a question. And while I was on Facebook, I might as well check in on my Insanity Support Group and let them know what workout I did this morning….. Oh look that is a funny picture on my newsfeed. I have the best comment for that, it will only take a second. What was that ding? Oh awesome there are 2 new people wanting to join The Crew as Beachbody Coaches. Man I really don’t like this song on Spotify … where is the thumbs down button. WOW… how is it already 11am? I told the family I would be done with all my work by noon so we could have family lunch and shopping day. Now I feel really stressed and pressured. Where did all the great creative ideas I had for blog posts go…… crap.
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR TO YOU???
It’s kind of laughable that I am wrestling with this today. It was just a week ago I had a two day workshop with the amazing people from FranklinCovey. I went into that workshop assuming we were just going to learn about time management, but really as the training unfolded it was obvious that the main point was that we all need to FOCUS.
It becomes much easier to focus when we identify what things truly need our attention, what can wait, and what can be handled by others. (This may make you a bit uneasy if you are a self admitted control freak who needs their hands in everything. Don’t feel bad I used to be one as well. There is hope for you!)
BUSY, EXHAUSTED, WITH NO RESULTS
Obviously this is very common in the workforce. That is why there are companies like FranklinCovey that come in and train entire organizations on ways to help them focus. But I constantly see this issue when it comes to people’s health and fitness! It is totally understandable! There is so much info out there, it is easy to become paralyzed with diet/exercise overload.
Can I get an Amen?
Vegan, Vegetarian, Paleo, Low Fat, Raw, Carb Cycling, Alkaline, Atkins, Cabbage Soup, Carb Lovers, Caveman, Dukan, Dr. Oz, South Beach, French Woman, Glycemic Index, Primal …. omigosh my head hurts from the results from a google search on diet. The results are just as overwhelming if you were to search ‘best workout’ or ‘get fit’.
So how is it possible to Focus in the midst of all this noise? That is a great question.
If you have been reading this blog for awhile you know that my 100 pound weight loss has come because I follow the 4 Pillars of Success:
Fitness + Nutrition +Support + Rewards = Real Long Term Results
For me that has been doing progressing through programs like Power 90, P90X, and Insanity (Fitness), drinking my Shakeology every day (Nutrition), plugging into our Support Group, and entering the Beachbody Challenge where I was able to win $1000 for my results. That worked for me! Does that mean that is the only solution out there? Absolutely not! What I will encourage you to do is to PICK SOMETHING. Then once you’ve picked something STICK TO IT! Really it is that simple. Jumping week to week to a new program or fad diet is never going to get you anywhere. Every time you shift directions you are having to restart your momentum all over again. At the very least give your plan 6 weeks to see if it really works. Be patient. Don’t expect magical overnight results! And don’t go at it alone. Find a community to support you because you will have bad days that you want to quit, and that is where the support pillar is key.
