Training Camp Live Highlights With Gary Vee
As you all can imagine, we were very honored to have Gary Vaynerchuk as our keynote speaker at this year’s Training Camp Live event. Gary covers an enormous range of subjects during his speech ranging from self awareness, hustling, the MLM industry, why the girls are beating the guys (it’s not because of sexy pics), and network marketing.
The highlights are below, but you can watch the full video for yourself above.
Why the girls are doing better
One of the biggest vulnerabilities of this industry is that too many of you do care what people think and all of the tactics that are needed to actually be successful and what to do requires you putting out content that inevitably, especially for you or for me when I post cursing content or for other people…”Oh, the girls are killing it in this industry.” Well, guess what? Have you looked at the comments for the girls? They have to deal with douchebags like us that just want to fuck them.
I hate it when dudes are like, “Oh, it really sucks. People are like, ‘This is spammy.’ But girls have it so much easier.”
I did my homework on the way here. This bullshit that this is easier for the girls because they put sexy pictures, that’s fucking a bullshit excuse. You’re a fucking loser if you think that.
Let me news alert you guys. The reason the girls are winning and you’re not right now is because they’re actually talking about the product as well.
You need to be honest with yourself
I didn’t wake up at 4:30 in the morning to come here and motivate you. To make you laugh with a couple of curses. There are 4 – 7 key pillars that makes 8 out of the 10 people in this room not win as much as 2 out of the 10 people in this room. First and foremost, if you’re not passionate about the products that this company sells, but you love this model, then you should go do it somewhere else. Straight up because you’re going to lose.
If you’re uncomfortable with what anybody says about what you do for a living, you shouldn’t do it. That’s just real.
You have to understand that in the next decade or two, the world’s going to become very open. It’s gotten very hard to win in the shadows of society. I think it’s a very important pillar that I want to pound on here which is that you have to make a decision here today. If you are not willing to scream at the high heavens of what you’re doing here and what you’re trying to recruit and what you’re trying to make happen, you can’t do this. You can’t because you won’t win and you’ll just be in a circle and it’s just not good. Just do something else.
Content about complaining is a zero return investment
The single variable that allows me to vet a human being in a heart beat is how much they complain. I can tell you right now that the quickest tell to me in the world that you’re not a winning player is that you complain. It’s the quickest tell. I quickly pay attention to where people go with their content. Complaining is literally a zero return investment and it is stunning to me how many of you do it or even scarier, you find excuses.
Everything wrong in your world is your fault. All of it. Not your wife. Not your dad was a drunk. Not your neighborhood. You. You fucking suck and the second you go there, shit changes. When you spend every minute to, “I need to fix this shit that sucks,” instead of, “I’m going to sit here and drink this Budweiser and watch UFC tonight and complain about all the shit that’s fucked up with my friend Rick (who’s also a fucking loser),” shit changes.
The bottom line is that you need to start with yourself. If your seed’s fucked, you’re not going to do anything with it so you gotta get there. I really implore you, I don’t think that there’s anything else.
Why Gary gives away his business advice for free
Let me tell you, real quick, for all of you why I give away all of my business advice. Why I don’t have courses and all this other stuff that the people that look like me do for their business models. Because 99% of you are not going to do anything about it anyway. I can give away my best shit, which over a decade or two is going to make me the number one guy because all these other assholes want to give you 2/3’s of it and then make you pay for the rest. And then, I’m going to give it all away! But none of these motherfuckers are going to do anything about it so then I get to keep it all still!
It’s very simple. Get your shit together or all my tactics won’t work. My tactics are one move, it just takes 18 hours a day to execute. The move is attention arbitrage. Where are people and where is it underpriced? It’s not just digital. Over the next decade as digital eats up traditional, I feel comfortable actually predicting this, I’m probably going to be one of the biggest advocates of radio and direct mail and billboard and television that I shit on actively now in 12 years, in 15 years, when those industries collapse and I watch them and run the math and they’ve over-underpriced it and now it’s actually a deal to buy radio ads.
I make all my money while you ponder. I make all my money while you come up with excuses to why it’s not working for you. I make all my money while you pontificate your opinions about SnapChat yet you never even fucking downloaded it.
Go all in on your strengths
I love working more than anybody, but I don’t like working on things I know I’m not good at. That’s a whole other thing in here. If you’re not good at selling, you may want to rethink this strategy. So putting yourself in the best position to succeed.
You can’t work at 3 o’clock in the morning and bleed out of your eyes if you don’t like it. The reason a lot of people are not winning is they’re not working hard enough. The reason why you’re not working hard enough is not because you’re not capable, it’s just you don’t like it. You don’t like it and nobody does anything they don’t like.
Why self awareness is so important
That’s the game. The game is self awareness. Once you accept your strength and weaknesses and you become binary, and then you go all in on your strengths and you punt your weaknesses, that’s when shit starts happening. The problem is all of marketing in America sells you on your weaknesses and tries to sell you to fix your weakness because you fall for that shit.
I’m starting to try to unwind how the fuck do you create self awareness if you don’t have it. I don’t have the answer, but what I can tell you is there has been one thing that I’ve been pushing that I’ve gotten very positive emails from which is, you need to find the 5 – 7 people that know you the best and create a safe environment to tell you shit that you don’t want to hear. It might take a month or two because they’re not going to believe you. You have to create that environment in your ecosystem. Super duper important.
If I leave here with anything, if I can get 2 – 3 dudes in here for the first times in their lives fundamentally look themselves in the mirror and accept who they are, they will win.
You got to stop worrying about what everybody else thinks. You gotta figure yourselves out my friends. Figure yourself out and be unabashful. Be unabashful. Be like, “Great, I suck at this.” I’m proud that I suck at handy shit. You want to call me not a real man, super. How much money you got?
Don’t be half pregnant
I really don’t think that I should mean or matter anything to your decision path to your life really. I’ve got my opinions just as equally as yours. The problem is the ones of you that react to my point of view on this business model, you’re more worried about how you feel about it, not how I feel about it.
Don’t be half-pregnant. Pick one. It’s okay with either one. The problem is that you’re half-pregnant and that is the worst place to be in the world. When you’re teetering, you’re just not in and you’re better off going in one way or the other. To me, when I was think about this talk, I was going to try to get tons of people to go all in and be successful and get tons of people to leave this fucking industry and this product period. That’s the best thing to happen. That’s the best vested interest in you.
Look at who you’re surrounding yourself with
You really need to kick out your loser friends. It’s a big deal. The reason why I haven’t started talking about it yet is I like being educated. I think that one of the one things that I would audit those 5 people in your circle. I’m telling you, negative loser energy is a drag. Find new friends. People that are fired up and trying to win. I’ve seen this happen a couple of times. That’s a twist in itself. By the way, that might mean to break up with your partner. Loyalty trumps your happiness. How the fuck did that work out?
Question & Answer Segment With Coach Jimmy
You’ve talked about a lot of times that as a leader you have to be willing to fall on your sword and eat shit sometimes. Each of these guys, not only with their business but they’re leading teams, and a lot of times, we get blamed by the people that we brought in that are like, “Oh, I wasn’t successful because of this.” Where, as a leader, do you call somebody out and where as a leader, maybe with just your employees, do you maybe take a fall just as a leader?
No. There’s no 8th fucking place trophies around here. No, Rick, you suck. But, the only reason that I’m effective at that is because i equally say, “I fucked up,” or, “We have to change because I did this wrong thing.” What I often rely on and what makes it easier is I always tell people that I’m a net net guy.
Business is UFC. There’s no undefeated and too many of you want to be undefeated and perfect. I love losing. I proudly wear my L on my shoulder. I think if you don’t have losses that you’re way too safe and you suck. So the only way you have the ability to call out John is if you called yourself out first.
So if you’re only ever calling everybody else out, well then you’re that and so I am actually very aggressive at calling myself out and I’m more passive on calling out people. I have way more tolerance and patience to call you out. It’s like the 19th time that Jeff fucks up that I drill him, but the first time…shit, a half a fuck up, I’m like, “Yo, I think I’m about to fuck up.”
When I talk to a lot of guys, it goes along with a loss. It’s the fear of execution. They want stuff to be perfect and then they finally share that story on Facebook or they get out on social and they’re sharing their story, talking about their business, and it didn’t go right. How do you get over that fear of execution and be like, “I’m going to continue to try to put stuff out there until I figure out what works for me individually?”
You’ve got to play the reverse game of what a lot of you play and it’s the game that most people don’t recognize that I’m playing which is I don’t talk shit up front. I talk shit post-game.
You know why you don’t want to talk about your losses? Because you told everybody how much you were going to crush it when you started this. That’s why. I was 33 years old before I ever made my first video about business and built a $60 million business already. That’s why it’s fun.
Too many of you are like, “Oh, Susan. Watch what I’m going to do,” and then you don’t do anything and you’re like, “I don’t want Susan to think that I’m a loser.” That’s why.
So how do you do it? Stop promising shit up front, put your head down and execute, and then post-game your success. This way you’re not talking at all until you’re there. Too many of you front. You peacock up front. You tell everybody how you’re going to do it.
That fake confidence smells like shit to winners. I smell that fake confidence on you every day. So, what happens is that winners can smell it on you so they may be nice to you, but they’re disrespecting you in their head. Non-winners don’t know the difference, but then when you don’t win, you look like shit and now where the fuck do you go?
So, less talk about how great you are and then the other thing, this industry especially, this is another thing that I absolutely do not like about this industry is that people sell fake lifestyle. Can we stop taking money out of a bank, taking a picture of it, and acting like we’re so fucking awesome? Can we stop teaming up with four dudes to rent a private jet to make it look like that’s the life we’re living?
You’re not fooling anybody and who do you think you’re attracting into your stream with that horseshit? Let me save you some time, you’re attracting somebody who wants it way too fast, doesn’t want to put in the work, thinks you’re so special.
Do you know why I’m not as popular as I should be? People don’t want to do what I’m telling them to do. You know why there’s a bunch of hucksters that kind of look like me that are also charismatic, but they have a different story and they have followers that give a shit? It’s because they’re telling people what they want to hear. I’m never going to tell you what you want to hear.
Let me tell you this straight up truth, it’s the most true of all time, nobody in the history of time has ever been successful without hard work. Nobody. It has never happened. Zero. Zero times in history did somebody else make the money for you. Your momma might have made the money and you inherited it, but you’re not hiring anybody that’s going to make you all your money.
Are you out of your mind? Really?! Like somebody’s super motivated because of the timing you got them into the world that you’re going to lay on a fucking beach and they’re going to hustle. Have you broken down these concepts into a sentence and reread it back to yourself?
All industries are the same. There are scum buckets in Corporate America. There’s awesome people in Corporate America. There are scum buckets in MLM. There’s entrepreneurs. It’s all the same. There’s one fundamental difference that turns me off substantially. I’m just stunned by how many people think that the model is, “I’m going to find somebody to do all the work for me.”
Because most of these guys are 9 to 5 and this is a side hustle. Some of these guys are trying to get out of that 9 to 5 and one question that I really liked in here is what if I love my 9 to 5 and my side hustle? How do I split my attention and my focus with the time that I’m putting in on that?
Listen, on a serious note because we’ve been going one route, if you’re happy, you’ve already won. You should go home. If you’re happy with how much you make, with your wife, with your kids, with your leisure, with your split, that’s not for me to tell you. That’s for you to tell yourself.
I really mean it. If you’re happy then that’s it man. That’s the best. This is not about a money thing. I have so many friends that were early Facebook and Twitter that have $50 – $80 million in the bank and are just miserable. I always hate it when friends go, “It’s easy for you to say, you have money.”
“Dude, you knew me when I didn’t have money. I was the happiest fucking dude. That’s why you were friends with me cause you’re always miserable Tyler you fucking fuck face.”
So to answer that question, it’s just very personal. If you’re really happy and you really like your 9 to 5, then that’s great! That’s awesome! You don’t have to make as much as me or him or that person.
Do you think it’s easier to keep hustling when it’s something outside of yourself? When it’s not just about you and something for yourself? When it’s that parent or your kids?
Absolutely not. I think it’s easiest to hustle when you figure yourself out. Like some of you should go to therapy. I mean it. I think it’s good. This is a good thing. I didn’t need it since I had my own outlets, but some of you could literally find somebody in Google, have one therapy session, say the one thing that’s in your stomach that you need to get out, and literally change your life? It’s cool.
That’s why your business isn’t working right now because something that happened in third grade between you and your dad.
It’s something within you because you’ve talked about it with people that go to events like this or buy the next course are looking for something external to change it and it really isn’t anything outside of you at all.
I have never consumed anybody. Ever. I know nothing about anybody. I freaked out when I started getting into this world because people were like, “Oh, you like that Tom Collins? That Napoleon Hill?” I was like, “What?”
I’ve read three books. Like Barbara Walters autobiography, Joe Namath…the Barbara Walters thing was weird. I don’t know why I read it. Joe Namath the book, Namath. I don’t look for anybody external to do anything.
Do you find it ironic, in our world we talk about personal development and so you’re a lot of people’s personal development, that you’re in the space but it’s not a space that you’re in yourself personally?
It’s why I think that fundamentally that I’ll end up being the guy.
Because you’re not looking at what somebody else is talking about?
100% so I sound different so I can break through. Number two, I think most of those guys are just trying to make money from you and I’m not. I don’t want your money. You’re not coming to my island. It’ll never happen.
Yes, I think the one with the purest intent wins the game.
I’m not going to bullshit you and placate to your weaknesses so I can extract money from you. I’m going to tell you exactly what it is, your mom fucked you up. Go fix it.
You hang out with fucking losers. Go fix it.
You Auntie used to complain about the President and you picked up on that and you actually believe that.
Whatever it is and then number two, once you fix that (if you can), here’s the tactical advice. Facebook ads are underpriced. Instagram celebrities, don’t make fun of Shredz and Protein World as a bad thing. Do the same model. They’re underpriced. They’re underpriced.
Learn SnapChat because in 3 years it’s gonna be just like Facebook. You all made fun of Facebook 6 years ago and thought it was for kids. How are you letting SnapChat do it directly in your fucking face again?
Figure it out.
You’re running a business and you don’t have 12 hours to watch videos on how to use SnapChat and then 6 hours using it? You don’t have time?! The fuck are you talking about?
You know I’m crazy. I have people leave a comment to my advice and say they don’t have time and I’ll follow them and then I wait like a fucking hawk. This is my favorite because I’m like a fucking cobra in the grass. Do you know how sick I am? This is what I do with my fucking spare time? Charles Joseph fucking wrote, “I don’t have time for this,” and I fucking get motivated by that, follow him on Twitter (he’s got like 8 followers), I watch him and then I wait.
This is my favorite time of year. This actually is my favorite time of year because a lot of them love to talk about Steph Curry and LeBron and I’ll wait and wait and then the tweet will come.
“Yo, did you just see what LeBron did?!”
And I fucking strike!
And I jump in.
“Oh, you don’t have time, but you have time for LeBron you fucker?!”
I love it.
How are you different behind closed doors closing a big client? I don’t think we’ve ever seen that side. What’s that version of you?
Really aggressive. I’m going in for the close. I’m massively disrespectful to the other agencies. I’m like, “What? Are you going to fucking hire that bullshit agency?”
It’s a process of showing our value proposition. At this point it’s going very well because not only is it the hyperbole and reputation of me, but we’re a 650 person, $100 million a year business and that has done it for all of these companies. These people leave and go to other businesses and hire us.
The funny thing is that in those closed meetings, I’m probably the most similar version to what I’m doing right now. I’m very aggressive. I want it. I’m there for keeps. I didn’t fly there to hang out. I want the business and I’m very comfortable in asking for it and I’m very aggressive.
I look at that as if somebody’s getting started in our business and they’re looking for those first 10 people to be business partners with, what I keep hearing you say is don’t be half-pregnant so if you believe in this and you’re going to do it, to be aggressive finding those first 10 people to go in with you?
Yes, but it depends on how you’re deploying it. Listen, if I decided to join this business, I would become the foremost believer and expert in the product and I would sell against the product. I would say, “John, you need to get into this because this product is phenomenal and people are going to use it and we’re going to be the beneficiaries of it.”
Not, “Hey, it’s really fucking cool. What you’re going to do is you’re going to come in, we’re going to get people, and smoke weed in Jamaica. Yeah!”
The reason that I’m not a fan of the business model is because I’ve never met any other industry that often times has no understanding or passion for the product that’s actually being sold. That’s a problem and you’re talking to someone that thinks that hard work is the variable to success and only believes in selling shit that he believes in.
