Tips for Building Your Home Business With Periscope
Getting into a home business can be a daunting task, but I think it’s smart even if you have a whole other career because who doesn’t need passive income?
Starting a traditional business on your own, there’s so much into it. If you can lean on a corporate structure that takes care a lot of the IT, promotion, bonus structure, and payroll, there’s so many things that you don’t have to do. It’s a great way to baby-step your way into business and take control of something on your own.
One thing I have done in my 8 years of running my home business is that I’ve always been teachable and I’ve jumped where there’s an opportunity. With Periscope I have a feeling that there are going to be two types of people right now; those that jump and those that watch from the sidelines while they’re trying to figure this thing out.
Today’s the day to jump guys. It’s hot right now and nobody knows how long this bubble is going to last. Maybe this Periscope thing is a brief little fad, but why not use this fad to jump into your own business.
I was bound and determined to make this thing work. What I have found in my 8 years and the people that I’ve found to have the most success in their home businesses are the people that are always learning. They never think that they’ve figured it out and I tell the people that I work with and mentor that “Hey, look. I have 8 years of experience, but I’m still always expanding my knowledge and learning from others.”
I’m expanding my home business with Periscope because I’ve learned from some people who have already positioned themselves as Periscope experts.
I remember jumping on Facebook to build my business earlier than other people did because they weren’t sure about this Facebook “thing” when I found a ton of people and my business exploded on Twitter. You know, I would tell people about it and I’d always get “Oh, I don’t understand that Twitter thing.” Well, you know how you get things? You educate yourself on them. Periscope is the new toy on the block, right? You have an opportunity to be a pioneer and stake some land and position yourself as an expert now before it gets noisy.
I see this so much in my business and I call you guys “the processors”. They go to a training, they see something and they’re like “Oh, I’m gonna jump in as soon as I process all this.” I’m gonna encourage you to process while you jump. We’re all new at this and how do you learn? Do you learn to swim by watching other people do it? Every day you choose to watch from the side of the pool, you’re not getting better.
First and foremost, you want to get in. You want to start scoping. You can’t expand your network or business if you’re not in here, getting on camera, and talking to people. You need to make a commitment to scope at least once a day for the next thirty days.
Once a day, you need to figure out when that is. The cool thing about Periscope is that you don’t need a lot of production value and it’s super easy to jump on here whenever you want.
Don’t lead with your business name or your product. Some of you may need to go change your handle. If your name is @BillyWeightLossShake or @SuzyNails or @SallyEyelashes or whatever it is that your company promotes, I’d look into change your handle name. I would not lead with your business. I don’t feel like it’s very professional and I don’t find that it works. It just screams that you’re trying to sell people stuff so get rid of that and get rid of that on all social media platforms. You are not your company. You’ve decided to partner with them and they are your business partner, but you don’t work for them. You’re not an employee for them. It’s an instant turnoff. If I see that type of handle sending me a message, I know what she’s up to!
What is it that you want to talk about? Get on here and teach something! Go back and look at my previous Scopes, I always get on with at least one lesson to teach. My business is built a lot with video (my YouTube channel, Facebook video, and now with Periscope) so I got on the other morning and I taught video skills. I got on and added value. Add value. What is it that you can do? What is it that you can teach somebody that may end up being your target market and benefit from your product or service.
I keep a list in the notes section of my phone any time that I have a good idea for a Periscope, I write it down. I don’t know about you, it comes into my brain and if I don’t get it down somewhere, it’s gonna leave and fast.
Who’s scopes do you like? What is it that you like about them and what can you do to tweak what you do in your business? That’s what I do. I follow and I really take note of the people that I’m really attracted to and I go “Oh, they’re funny.” or “Oh, they use cool music.” or “They’re super interactive.” Not to copy them, but to really get some ideas.
Your attitude when you jump on Periscope is that I’m here to added value to people whether or not they ever, ever, ever do business with me. Stop looking at people as numbers, prospects, bonus pools, rank advancements, and whatever how your company works and really go into the marketplace to add crazy, crazy value. What can you teach people? That’s literally every day I think about what I have struggled with and what I can teach people.
