Instill More Trust in Your Customers
Hello, my name is coach Jimmy. I’m coming to you live from Dallas Texas. Actually my name is Jimmy Hayes Nelson, but people call me coach Jimmy and before got started in business, which was almost 9 years ago, I found myself in my early twenties, I was a three-time college, 100 pounds overweight, and things weren’t going very well and I just share that because regardless of where you are right now in improving your life or getting your business up and running, I am going to guarantee you, you are more ahead of the game that I was when I started.
I had nothing that said that I was going to be successful in business and that’s good news for you because if I didn’t have anything that said I was going to be successful, and we have been able to create a seven figure business, I’ve lost 100 pounds off I kept it off for over 10 years, I have thousands of success stories within our team its amazing leaders that are doing some amazing things that I think, “Wow. if we were able to achieve that…” I don’t say that to brag or to boast like, “Wow! We here like started from the bottom now we’re here. We here started from like negative 12 and we’re here,” and so that’s so good news for you because that means that you can do whatever!
Your starting point wasn’t as bad as my starting point and getting your home business up and running…regardless whether you are with my business, another home business, you’re trying to create your own product, you are up and running and way ahead of the game just because you’re here. You are right here you are watching this video right now which shows me you are serious about getting results. That you are serious about changing your reality right now.
And so what we are talking about today is how to give your business instant credibility. I see this over and over. Somebody starts a home business or gets involved some with our business or create some kind of entity online, and they come into a little timidly because let’s face it, you start a home business or some or get involved in some kind of business, you have this really high level of excitement, right? “Wow. Maybe this is the opportunity, maybe this is the thing that’s going to change my life,” so there’s this excitement, there’s this hope in one column.
In the other column there is really a high level of anxiety. “Is this going to work? Is this a scam? Can I do this? Am I wasting my money? Who is going to listen to me?” I hear this one a lot and particularly in our business is if somebody comes in, we work a lot in the health and fitness industry so people come in with weight to lose without any experience, and I hear this all the time is, “But Jimmy, I still have 20, 30, 40, 50 pounds to lose some people have 100 pounds to lose. How can I coach somebody? Who is going to listen to me? Who’s going to take me seriously as an authority?”
And that is a legit question. I’m going to tell you it’s really a strength and we are going to talk about that today about how to give your business instant credibility.
And you come in with these anxieties and people come in with these self-imposed timelines that, “Hey, if I don’t understand everything about this business in the first week, in the first two weeks, if I’m not making a ton of money on my first 30 days, I am going to quit.”
Unfortunately, I had a guy that I was working with last year and we set up call and young guy in college, fit, smart, good work ethic, but I already knew he was not going to be around very long because in our initial chit chat he said, “Yeah. I’m going to try out this thing for 6 months and see what happens with it.” And I just in the back of my head I was like, “Oh, well, he had a lot of potentials,” and why did I know that immediately?
Because when he told me he’s going to try this out for 6 months…anything that you go into that you give yourself an exit clause at the beginning, you give yourself an escape hatch, you give yourself a safety net, you’re not going to go all in with it because you have your hand on that exit door and the minute things get hard and the minute things aren’t working right and the minute things are fun or you’re struggling, man, it’s so easy to just bail out that emergency hatch. And he already set up his emergency hatch he set his emergency hatch and he give himself a timeline.
Make a Long-Term Commitment
So the first thing you getting your business credibility is being it for the long haul like come in this is and say like hey I don’t know how long this is going to take me to learn.
You want to be making millions of dollars in 30 days or you quit. That’s bunk. It doesn’t work that way.
Think about this you give yourself for 4, 5, 6, 8 years to go through college, some of you, yet you want to bail on a home business because somebody told you know when your first week that just because in your first 30 days, your Ferrari’s is not outside. Yet you’ll go into tens of thousands of dollars of credit card debt in student loans to get a degree that doesn’t guarantee you a job at all! I mean you know somebody, and you may be that person, that still is paying off credit card debt or student loans on a degree you either didn’t get, that would be me that was me, a degree I didn’t get or a degree you got and you don’t do anything with that degree. What you earn a living at has nothing to do with that.
So you bought into the scam that is student loans really, but you’re worried about is this home business is a scam and you want everything to like be done in perfect and in a bow and you want to be making millions of dollars in 30 days or you quit. And that’s just bunk. It doesn’t work that way.
So number one thing to give credibility is being it for the long haul. As you’re talking to people, “I am starting a business, I have a lot of time to learn. These are the reasons I’m excited about it. I see this is getting me out of my situation.” So all the reasons people are giving you as an excuse not to get involved with your team, not to get involved with your business, “I don’t have enough money. I don’t have enough time. I don’t know how to do that.” All these reasons why we hear that, my response to that your response to that is that your sharing what you’re doing is, “Great, that’s why I’m doing this. Man I’m really struggling financially. That is why I am doing this because I want to change my current situation. I don’t have a lot of time to spend with my spouse or my kids. I don’t have any free time because I am working 18 hours a days. You know what? That is why I am choosing to start this thing part-time to find a way to change that because I can just complain about it and nothing changes.”
Be Genuine & Honest
So those reasons why other people are giving their excuses on why they are not getting started, another thing is going to give you instant credibility is just being honest that I’m in learning mode. Like be public about it!
Think about it this way, you are at the grocery store and you’re in a hurry and you’re in like the 10 items or less line and you have your 10 items, and the line is really long and it’s just moving terribly slow I mean just painstakingly slow and you think somebody up there is going coupon crazy or there that person that we all hate that has the 15 items in the 10 items line. And you have already decided in your mind, “When I get to the front of this line I am going to the light into this cashier like they don’t know how much of my time been wasted, my kids are screaming, I’m just going to light into this person,” and all of a sudden you step up next in line and there is that cashier person and right here on there of the lapel there’s a gigantic button says “Please be Patient, in training” or “Trainee”. Do you not immediately let your guard down and just go, “Bless their heart.”
Like they’re learning, there’s a gigantic line here, they’re learning on the fly right here. I’m going to give them some grace, I’m going to give them time. Right now you’re getting a business up and running use the trainee button! Everybody wants to pretend that they are an expert at the beginning. They want to be able to tell people I know everything about my business or I know everything about my products.
Be honest and go, “Hey! Trainee here! Starting a new business. I may not know the answer to that I’m going to check with my team. I’m just kind of getting started. I’m looking for some people that want to learn along with me.” I’m built but you have to have a vision of what your building. I am jumping into this because I’m going to create freedom for my family. I am jumping in this to get out of this credit card debt that we are drowning right now. I’m looking for people, I’m building something special.
This is the mistake most people make. They think when I lose the 20 pounds then I can coach somebody else.
People want to be involved in the building of something more so than an established thing. Like right now, I have a vision for where I want the building of our team this year. I have trainings scheduled today with my team and I’m going to be sharing my vision for where we’re going because I need people to help me build things. Even though I’m 8 years into this. I still feel like we’re in this baby building mode and if you immediately say, “Hey I am starting this new business. I have, maybe it’s the health and fitness portion, I have weight to lose. I had decided instead of using time and money as an excuse, I am making a step forward to start this program, to start this 21 day program, to start this 2 month program. Yeah, I got a long way to go. I’m looking it for people that want to come along with me. I want somebody who’s going to help champion and I am going to champion them. Instead of waiting.”
This is the mistake most people make. They think when I lose the 20 pounds then I can coach somebody else. “Once I make that $200 a week then I can teach somebody else about it.” Don’t do that. Say, “Hey, I’m working with people that have results. I am working with people that have the results, I’m still learning, who wants to learn along with me?”
Don’t Worry About the Naysayers
There’s so much more credibility in that when you’re just honest. Dude, when you’re not trying to be the expert, because then people start going, “Well, how much money are you making? Well, how much weight did you lost?” That’s what usually what stumps somebody….. Stop. “That’s a great question! I ain’t making Jack yet and I ain’t lost anything yet, but I have a plan and I’m really looking forward to the people that they’re going to join me on this because it’s so much fun to like build this with other people. Now I’m going there whether or not you follow me or not because I know where I’m going and I know the people that I am working with and we have a system in place. I know it works!” and you can start sharing stories of the people you already working with that do have the results beyond you, but don’t be deterred because you’re like “They’re not coming with me.”
Bless them, “Awesome. Not ready for you yet. Cool. Well I’m going to keep going this way and I would look at it this way. You can buy stock early in what I’m building now and reap all the benefits or you can be a wait watcher. And that means you sit back and wait and watch and you wait till I lose those 5 pounds and then I lose 20 pounds and I am making $100 a week and then I’m making $1,000 a week and you could come run come back up and like ‘Okay, I’m ready to get involved,’ and I will be happy to work with you then. But it would have been so much sweeter if you just trusted and got involved immediately.”
I am only looking for the people who are looking for me. I am not in the convincing business.
I am going to get the numbers wrong, but I remember social networks, on my favorite movies and I was doing more research about Mark Zuckerberg when he was launching Facebook.
And I think he went to like 5 or 6 of his buddies and 2 said yes. Dude those other 4 guys…and you know why it didn’t matter that the other 4 guys said no because Zuck knew where he was going he had a vision. You got to have a vision. You got to have a vision for where you’re going, even if you don’t have evidence that it is there yet. You have to know we are going here.
When I got started in business, I literally made that decision. I was like, “Even if I never make a dollar, I am going to stick around because I see value in the community. I’m a better person even when I’m around this group online a virtual society,” it’s not like they are in my house. And so the minute I did that it freed me up to not have to be perfect.
If I’m not going anywhere there’s so much freedom in not being perfect. You can mess it up, “Cool I messed it up today, this person told me no, I totally said the wrong thing, I totally came across super salesy today. I pushed my cousin hates me now!”
I had done all those things! I got family members that rolled their eyes at me, I got friends of mine early on that were just like, “Dear Jeezy creezy Nelson! If I hear…see one more post about your shake or if I hear one more thing about some adventure going to or your business,” and I looked back at some of the messages I sent people early on and they are horrible.
I mean I was really, really bad.
In fact, it was my birthday not long ago and on Facebook people started sending me birthday messages. Well on Facebook messenger, you can scroll up and see like the last time you talked to those people and holy cow! There were some that I really hadn’t talked to in probably 4 or 5 years and I saw the last thing I sent to them what this just giant, long business picks just super pushy, and but at the end of the day I had to go through that. And I know that in my heart I was doing the right thing, right, because I was enthusiastic about what I was getting involved in.
Don’t be Afraid to Fail
So again there’s another lesson in your credibility, don’t try to be perfect. I wasn’t! In fact, I probably came across really pushy, super salesy, but I knew my heart was in the right place. I was excited about what I was doing it and so certain people they are going to take it the wrong way as you’re learning.
The other thing that is going to give you instant credibility is just being really public about your product. So let’s talk about in a home business specifically. We talked about being a product of the product when I do my trainings. That doesn’t mean that you gotta have 6 pack abs, that doesn’t mean you have to post a bunch of shirtless pics. That just means you are on your journey.
What gives you credibility immediately is saying, “I am making a commitment to using these products. So for me, I am doing this work out and I am following this nutrition plan and I am using this new replacement shake to one of my meals a day.”
Don’t be a Hypocrite
That immediately that gives credibility because they know you are doing it. What gives no credibility is if you are telling other people to do something you are not willing to do. I feel like it’s the exact same thing in this business. I had a conversation yesterday about that I have issues with people that people who want to train or teach, but they feel like they are above doing the grunt work. Like they want to sit on their horse and tell you how to build your…like look 8 years into this and we have had a lot of success, I guess I could do that.
I could sit here and tell you all the things you need to do to build your business and I don’t have to execute any of them, right, because I can say, “Well, that’s what I did early on or that was the grunt work. I am not willing to do that hustle anymore,” but I feel like that makes me have no credibility if we’re talking about credibility, right?
My credibility goes down to the drain if my team doesn’t see me doing the things that I am teaching and I can totally lean on like, “Look at my stack. Look at my stack of results, look at my income, look at my physical results I don’t have to do that anymore. I’ve graduated beyond that,” and I really think that’s bullshit.
I just think the minute I stopped living this lifestyle, I have to do something else. I don’t feel like I would feel comfortable training if I am not doing it.
So again you are just getting started you are like, “I don’t know how to get these people involved with me, I don’t know.” So you are doing a couple of things. You are making a list and you are reaching out and I always tell people…they never make the list. Like 98% but then they feel like they have to go sell to those people and it’s not about that.
My credibility goes down to the drain if my team doesn’t see me doing the things that I am teaching.
I don’t know how many more times I can say this that list… let me back up. I had a mentor tell me at one time that, “In this business, I am only looking for the people who are looking for me. I am not in the convincing business.”
I hear that all the time. “As soon as I convince my cousin, soon as I…” Get that word out. I don’t convince anybody of anything. In fact I don’t even really handle objections anymore.
When somebody say that they don’t really have time or they don’t have money, like I would rather keep talking to the next person that sees the value and gets it. I look at handling rejection like wrestling with pigs. There is no way to wrestle with pigs without you getting muddy also. The minute I have to…it’s about posturing. The minute I have to go and start handling all our objections, then I have to get down and muddy with you and go live in your excuse land. Like I can just go, “Great! So it’s not the right time for you so the door is opened here anytime you want to get involved.”
Because the exact time and energy I spend in handling his person’s objections and…guys, it’s always the same objections. “I don’t have money. I don’t have time. I don’t like sales. Is this pyramid?” I don’t know whatever the fifth one is, it’s different versions of the same stuff and I can go straight to my like, “You know what really is the pyramid? The government, look at…” I don’t care because instead of spending the time getting in a fight with that person or playing tug of war with them I can go talk to somebody else that sees the value immediately.
Here is a big trap and please hear me, when you are getting started and you hear objections a few times, what happens in your brain is you feel like in order to do this I have to handle everybody’s objections because you go in with your guard up assuming that everybody is going to be skeptical, everybody is going to have an objection, it’s easy to do, and that’s the evidence that you see the evidence says.
I can tell you the people on my team that I never handled an objection with, that saw one of my videos and said, “This makes sense. How do I sign up? Where do I get started?”
Those people exist but when your first 3, 5, 10, 20 people that you talk to and you get into the objection sparring with them, you start going into conversations and into way into things going, “I know what you are thinking…” and so you start bringing up the objections that they might not even have, because you just assume that the last 5 people had this objection so they are going to tell me that they don’t have any time, or that this is a scam or do I have to drink the shake or whatever.
I am telling you that there are people out there looking for what you offer but they just don’t know it yet. Who are looking something in their life and you have the power to say, “Hey, this is what works for me.” and they are going to go, “Oh my gosh! I didn’t even know that existed!”
There are people that don’t know what I do exists! There are people that do they know my products. They know the home business workouts. They know, “Hey, I have heard of insanity. I have heard of PiYo. I have seen 21 Day Fix, Body Beast. I see the infomercial.”
They don’t have a clue that you can make money with it!
They don’t have a clue that they can get their supplements for free!
They don’t have a clue by getting in the community is actually going to get them better physical results. They don’t have a clue!
And some people are going to be skeptical, and some people are going to be hesitant, and some people just need time to process at that and it’s fine. Not everybody is going to say yes immediately. Some people…there are those wait watchers in life, right? Those “I am going to sit and watch,” and some of those people eventually come on board.
It’s funny I find some of the people that are the biggest rockstars on my team were the most skeptical pains in the…to get started. “No, I don’t want to do this. I don’t want to do that thing.” They are the biggest skeptics and the loudest like just a pain but when they come on board, they become the biggest advocates.
Be Consistent
So there is another tip for you that person was just like violently against what you are doing you never know. Just keep doing your thing because they are watching you. They just are testing are you are really into this and you want some of those A-type personalities who will go into battle with you people on your team.
You really want people like that in your business. They are just some of the hardest recruits because they are hard-headed…they are hard headed both ways. They are hard headed skeptics, but then when they get in like they would be the biggest advocates, they will be the biggest excuse busters on your team, they will be the one who will call out other people on your team and go, “why aren’t you doing this? Why aren’t you listening to him? Why aren’t you plugging into this training?”
And on the flip side, before they got so involved they were the biggest skeptic, but you need them! So again credibility is in consistency. Credibility is in consistency so people aren’t sure if you are in it and so we are going to recap what was it take advantage of your training button, just be honest. “I am just getting started I am only a few months into this.”
Also share little victories, “I am only 2 months into this but I am down 7 pounds and we are making an extra 50-100 bucks a week!”
That is one of the most powerful stories we can share. Don’t wait till you are making big bucks share the little things because people start thinking about, “Wow! She lost 7 pounds in the past 2 weeks and she is making an extra 50 bucks in a week that’s an extra $200 in a month. That should help settle her cell phone bill or her grocery bill or whatever it is.”
Start putting tangible things on that. It gives you credibility. It gives you credibility immediately. You don’t have to have a huge resume, you don’t have to have the perfect body before you have credibility in what you do.
So I am so thankful that you took the time here today. Do me a favor share one of your little victories with me in the comments. I would love to hear them! I want to help celebrate with you and we will share and celebrate each other. So share that in the comments. I would love to hear your little victory as your up and getting started. Let’s give each other credibility.
Thank you for stopping in my name is Coach Jimmy and we will talk really soon.
