Do you catch yourself feeling overwhelmed?
I grew up wanting to be an actor. I took classes from tons of acting coaches, but one particular acting retreat I took was OVERWHELMING. There was way more music and way more lines than I could master in a short amount of time. It was embarrassing. I sucked!
I thought I’d completely failed.
But here’s the thing: my auditions started improving shortly after. I got onto a hot streak and started booking gigs…
When I told my acting coach, he laughed. “We threw you in the deep end and we wanted you to float. The people who embrace the overwhelm end up doing amazing things.”
And that’s when I learned that overwhelm only exists in your head.
People freeze when they feel overwhelm, and maybe (like I used to) just go lay down and take a nap. But had I laid down during my acting retreat, I never would have experienced the next 6 weeks of success, nor would I have had the foundation to run my own business.
Where can you do just a little more work to get past the overwhelm time for a season?
Just make the effort!
You’re going to make mistakes. But you’ll just have to embrace the overwhelm. You have to doggie paddle.
Don’t go at this alone. If you want to lose some weight or build a business, rely on your mentor to overwhelm you! That’s the only place where change happens.
