Take back control of your life!
What’s up Facebook live? Coach Jimmy here. I got a bit of a weird light issue going on, here coming through. So let me see if I can scoot this way. Here we go! Welcome and thank you for a popping on. Little music here, trying to jack myself up because, if you’ve been following me today primarily on Snapchat, the reason this is the attire of the day is because this is a sick day for me.
So with some jumping in here, just let me know real quick if this is working and if you’re seeing me. I always want to make sure my streams work real quick, so just leave me a comment to let me know. Tell me where you’re popping in from today and how your Wednesday is going as I ramp up here and talk about sick days and the fact that I’m going through one right now.
Last night, I had a really productive day yesterday. Thank you Rebecca. Really productive day yesterday, in fact, my assistant even reached out to my wife and said, “Is Jimmy okay? He’s knocking these things out…” because she’ll usually give me a to do list or have to follow up about things that I need to do. So I mean, it was like the craziest most productive day, I had a killer workout with my trainer in the morning, I got in all my personal development, my learning stuff, and just knocked out to do list like nobody’s business.
Toward the end of the night, like this productive day just I’m just knocking shit out, I had one on one calls with some of my top level clients, knocked out things, we’ere about to re-launch TheCoachJimmy.com, website is getting a killer face lift, which is something I’m really, really excited about, had something to tape.
This is what keeps happening. Even though I’m on my Wi-Fi, there are times I think I will have a better Live Streaming experience if I was off my Wi-Fi. Like my home Wi-Fi that I pay for with U-Verse is so lacking. I just want to T-1 my house.
So if this cuts out now and then, I really do apologize I decided let’s go Wi-Fi thinking that’s going to make more sense and not always, but I’m also uploading YouTube video right now. If you’re not subscribed to my YouTube channel, I would really encourage you to get there. You can just find me at youtube.com/CoachJimmy. In fact, that was another thing that happened yesterday. So get the newsletter out, if you’re on my mailing list, you got the newsletter yesterday, you got to see my new video that’s probably one of the most raw, real, vulnerable, in your face, no editing, the most authentic me, for those people that really know me, that I probably ever put out.
Pretty much the most naked video in my world and if you go there it’ll talk about power of vulnerability in your story and thank you for those you that watched it and commented and have let me know the impact it’s had on you or shared it or what not.
It creeps up on you…
So all this is happening and I’m just having a great day. Thanks Sara. When I’m at home, I don’t wear these all the time, but they are killer glasses. There are from my friends at Sire’s Crown, my buddy C.J., it’s his company. If you want to look them up, these are amazing wood frames. Sire’s Crown. Look them up give them a shout out, tell him I sent you. Because if you can tell him I sent you maybe C.J. will send me more free shit.
So, we’re talking about why sick days piss me off and thank you guys that are sharing this feed right now to your personal page and tagging friends of yours that need to be in this and really it’s anybody who has allowed circumstances to control them. So I’m having this fantastic day, it’s really productive, I’m excited about getting to bed early, and having another you know six AM session with my trainer tomorrow and right toward the end of the day, and I had felt it about I don’t know three weeks or so ago. Just this little…I’ve been traveling a lot, just this little tickle in my throat I was like, “Ugh!”
I told my wife it’s like, “Eh, I feel something. I’m going to take some Robitussin before bed and take some extra wellness formula.” I just I don’t get sick after maybe five, six years of drinking Shakeology, it’s one of the things that I just I really don’t get sick.
I guess I should shut down my Facebook because people keep messaging me.
So I maybe get sick once a year and when I do, it tends to be a doozy, but I’ve learned preventative ways when I feel certain things coming on that I usually can do. So, I took some Robitussin and I take this stuff called Wellness formula and drank some water and drink some more Kombucha because it feels good on my throat and tried to lay down. I laid down and I never really got fully to sleep only…as I laid there, something about laying down and drainage and stuff, my throat just continued to hurt more and more.
Oh and I went to the dentist yesterday and that, that one is a fake tooth. That was a gap in my mouth like six years. So my mouth had been already hurting and so that’s one of the days I’m already kind of a pain and my throat starts hurting. Long story short, I am literally up until 3am. Now, mind you, my alarm goes off at 4:40 to get up in the morning and by 1 o’clock, it’s one of those things where I know I’m not going to sleep. I don’t know if you’ve ever do, but you know you’re not going to go to sleep, you have to change your location.
So I get out of bed and I go upstairs, so we have three levels to our place and we have kind of the home gym, man cave slash home school, you know Xbox, big T.V. situation with a killer napping couch up there. So I grab my woobie and my blanket and my pillow and I truck upstairs at 1am.
Then you’re breathing fire…
And I literally was up until…I didn’t quite fall asleep until three and I had to find a way to fall asleep kind of sitting up because I felt my throat…I mean it literally was like razors to swallow. I went downstairs and tried to get some more Kombucha just it was cold and while it felt good, it just hurt so bad to where I was like mad. Like you don’t realize how much you swallow in a day until it feels like fire every time you do.
So I finally get to sleep at about 3 and I canceled my session with my trainer and got up about 6:30 and literally I mean this hurt to touch, it was swollen, so I was like I’m getting to a doc in the box. My general practitioner doesn’t see sick people till the afternoon so I was like, “Nah, I’m going to go to one of those like little doc in a box med clinics.”
And if you follow me on snap chat this morning, you know that I went in and got the swab and yours truly has strep throat. I was like, “Damn it!” And one reason that sick days really piss me off is it gets me out of my flow. Right, I didn’t get a workout in today. I did get a steroid shot in my ass which really hurt. I don’t freak out about needles or something, but it’s just the medicine at the top part of your glut. I was walking around like a limp all morning, but it does help. She’s like, “You’re going to feel better in the next couple hours,” and I was like, “Damn, I need more steroids in my life!” Steroids in my life and I’ll need work out with them.
So I went back home and you know got my meds and my prescriptions and all that stuff. So I’m not one to let things linger. If I know I’m sick or I know there’s an issue, my point, there’s some people that are like, “I don’t want to go to the doctor,” and it gets worse and worse and worse. I’m the flipside. The minute I know there’s an issue, I want to go knock it out because I want to get back into my routine as fast as possible, but as I’m sitting there waiting to go in at 8, like I’m going into that doc in a box at 8, I got to thinking about how life wasn’t that different too long ago.
Sick Days Put Stress on Normal 9-5ers
Something like a sick day used to be a huge stress point on our home life. Specifically with my wife who worked as an executive assistant in corporate America for years and years and years. She was an executive assistant here in Fort Worth, when we first got married, for a holding company of a guy that owned 20 to 30 different companies. This guy like ultimate entrepreneur, owns restaurants, owns ranches, owns textile stuff.
So, that was a very demanding job. Then when we moved to New York City, she worked at a hedge fund on 5th Avenue and this was right before the market crashed in 2008 so she was there in the boom of all that. Obviously, really high stress as well as demanding and then we moved back here, I was still building our business and not to a point where she was able to leave yet, she worked at an aerospace company where she was supporting I think six or seven B.P.’s and all their personal stuff.
I just remember if there was a sick day, you had to talk…you almost had like justify it. You couldn’t just call it to be like, “Hey, I’m sick.” Like they want to know what level you were sick. Was this serious and almost like you felt like you had to lie or you had to embellish the truth or you felt bad that you were being interrogated when you like literally…if I had strep throat, I would still feel guilty about going, “Yeah,” or people are like, “Well, could you…are you sure you can’t come in? Did you get the antibiotic?” and stuff like that would drive me nuts or the fact that there be only so many vacations days in a year or sick days in a year and we had to structure travel to see family or to go on vacation or going to Beachbody trip around how many sick days she got or how many vacation days or personal days that she got in a year.
It was just always so frustrating because as a grown adult in America or even in Canada, I can’t really speak to any other countries, but here in North America, just the thought of being a grown adult having to ask somebody else permission to get rest and heal up, that they can punish you for say, “You’re out of sick days,” or, “You don’t have any more personal days,” like the thought of that, just seemed ludicrous to me.
You Should Control of Your Life, Not Your Boss
I’m like I’m a grown ass man in America and I have to ask another grown person permission to be sick or to rest or to heal up or to take care of myself in order to come back and do my job even better. That was so frustrating and I don’t know if you’ve thought of it that way, it’s like asking for a bathroom break or something like, “I’m a grown person. I don’t need to ask you permission to have the ebbs and flows my life,” or if there’s a family emergency or I have had people on my team of clients that I work with, they’re going through the flooding issue right now in Louisiana, you know that that could affect their work.
Let’s say that they worked with clients somewhere outside of that region, I think everybody inside that region really knows what’s going on, but if they were working as an employee remotely and they get their pay docked or their vacation time docked because of a natural disaster, that’s just not fair. That’s not right.
I was just reminded today about why I think it’s just so vital that everybody…it’s never been easier in your life, no matter what how busy you are, how many kids you have, or what your career is doing, that with the technology and the resources we have now, that everybody creates some kind of part time side hustle. Maybe it doesn’t replace your full time salary, maybe doesn’t get you out of that situation that you’re you have to ask permission, but how much more empowering does it feel if you know you had a little extra income coming in on the side of that one thing, that one job.
Let’s look at this way, I had to go pay my deductible for my doctor situation today and in the past, that would’ve been stressful as well, but if I had a side hustle that allowed me to pay for that deductible today or the two prescriptions I had to go get, that would make this situation less stressful and I think that that only happens if you create some kind of, and what I mean by “side hustle”, it’s just there are so many different ways to make money online using nothing more than your smart phone, the one I’m using right now, that I think the people that don’t get involved, it’s just the lack of, it’s either they just want to stay really…
Build Something Extra on the Side
I had a conversation with a guy in New York City who really got on to me when I reference these people as close minded and I just…what I mean by “close minded” is not willing to educate themselves on what’s actually possible and how much time does it really take. Those people that are like, “I don’t have time.”
“Okay, well how much time does it take to create some part time income?”
“Well, I don’t know, but I just assumed,” or those people that go, “I don’t want to do it unless I can do something 100%.”
“Cool, what does 100% mean?”
I think people think in order to create a side hustle or a part time business online or an extra revenue stream, that it’s like taking on an additional job. That they need an extra eight hours a day or it’s like taking a part time job and it’s not.
That’s the magic of this thing.
The magic of an online business, regardless of if it’s working with me or so many others…there are so many different types of online businesses, is the power of part time.
In fact, I was just talking to Bob Beaudine last week and he is the author of The Power of Who and his brand new book that came out yesterday, Two Chairs. I asked this very question on this radio show, I said, “My audience…” and you can actually see the live stream here on my page. If you go down through to last week, I was at the radio show. I asked the question, “A lot of my audience are people that have full time jobs and kids and responsibilities, but they know they have some kind of entrepreneurial spirit in their gut.” They want to create something more, some more freedom, or maybe they don’t want to leave their job. They just, who doesn’t want an extra stream of revenue? That just seems silly for somebody that goes, “I don’t want more money.” Not because you’re in the money ,but you’re into security of paying off debt or having an emergency fund for situations like this a natural disaster or being sick.
Start On the Road to Freedom Today!
And I said Bob, “You’re really busy guy. How would you say these people?” He talked about writing his newest book, he wrote from six or six thirty to seven thirty every day and then an extended time on the weekends that he would get up in his Saturday mornings for like four or five hours was dedicated this book of like blocking yourself out from the world and writing this book.
I’m just reminded over and over again that we all have the same twenty four hours. You always hear that, “Beyoncé and Oprah have the same twenty four hours,” and it’s not about pulling an eighteen hour day. I have people that I’ve worked with that have been able to walk away from six figure incomes by being consistent with thirty minutes a day or an hour a day.
Now, maybe it happened over the span of two years or three years, but tell me something else that in one to three years you could create another full time income? She was totally happy with her career, but then she realized, “Oh, I don’t have to answer that boss. I don’t have to ask permission for the sick days anymore,” and she chose to walk away from it.
That’s not for everybody, but it’s just a testament to the fact that she would take her lunch breaks at her busy executive job, go to her car, and execute some of the things that I teach people as their business coach and because she was consistent about it, she at least had the option to do that.
So I think the gist of this is, just what makes me mad, is you’re an adult. You have talents and value and the fact that you’re going to be told by somebody else when you can be sick, when it’s okay for a flood to hit your house, when it’s okay for something in the house to spring a leak, or for your kid to get sick is just bullshit. It really is and like I said, this doesn’t happen overnight, but it never happens if you don’t get started or if you don’t do the research. If want to do some research on how I created this, like I said, my way is just only one way and it’s not for everybody and there’s people on here that have worked with me as a mentor and a business coach and feel free to pick their brains as testimonies.
Check Out my Home Business Building Webinar
But if you want to learn more, I actually do a webinar where I lay out the people that worked with and how it works. You can go to JoinCoachJimmy.com and register for my upcoming webinars. JoinCoachJimmy.com and at least educate yourself on, “Okay, if my kid gets sick, if my house is flooded, if I was sick with no sick days, what I would do? Is there a way to be more prepared now for the next time that happens?”
Those that fail to plan, plan to fail. So I really think now, it’s never been easier or simpler. It’s not easy. This is going to take work. It doesn’t just fall in your lap. It’s not like, “Oh, I signed up for this thing and they just started sending me checks.” But it’s at least worth educating yourself about. If any of this resonated with you or you just got mad because somebody else could tell you where you could be and when, because that’s what it was for me, then I really encourage you go to JoinCoachJimmy.com, register for my next webinar, and just learn.
Get in there and maybe working with me isn’t the thing you want to do, but it’s something. Maybe something I say sparks another idea that you can take action on. Great, but anything is better than not doing anything and being a victim the rest your life with your time and with situations like this because it’s not if the shit’s going to hit the fan it’s when. It’s just when trouble in life is coming, you always hear, “If you don’t have trouble now, well just batter down because it’s going to be on the way.” There can be some stuff that comes.
Why not in a good time don’t you take advantage of store up extra things that you can do now so that when the bad times come, you’ve already done the work and you can take advantage of that. So that’s it. I’m going to go eat some yummy chicken soup that my wife made me that is…I think it’s like her mom’s magic Cajun recipe that’s a heal-all for everything and hopefully I’m back at it tomorrow.
Again JoinCoachJimmy.com, go over there, register for the webinar, reach out to me, let me know what you think, and I really appreciate you taking the time. We’ll talk real soon. I’m going to go lay back down and watch more episodes of The Office, things you do when you’re sick. All right. Love you guys, thanks. Take care.
