Do you prefer going to the gym? Is Cross Fit your thing? That’s okay!
Hi! My name is Coach Jimmy and before I got started in the health and fitness industry, I was a one hundred pound overweight, three time college dropout that was living back at home with my parents. But over the past nine years, I have been a Team Beachbody coach and I find that funny that that term evokes so many emotions or opinions from so many people on what exactly that is, and I think that there is a lot of misinformation out there as well.
I’ll be honest, I got started early on and I didn’t realize what it was, what the business side of anything was, all I knew was that I was introduced to a community and some products that really changed my life.
I started with a program called Power 90. Tony Horton, one of his first programs when he was in tiny little shorts and it was just him and two people, and what I liked about it is that I can do it in my small little apartment and then I saw results with it. I also was one of the first people that I knew that did P90X and my wife and I did it together at 6am every morning.
It was brutal.
I remember literally throwing up the first day I did Plyometrics.
I remember falling over 800 times the first time I did yoga and I was just awful at it.
But they also really changed who I was not only physically, losing a hundred pounds, but it really changed who I was mentally, how I thought, and being plugged into an amazing community. And a lot of people that follow me on social media, number one they know me as the motivation guy, but they also know that I have some kind of association with Beachbody.
Most people think I am a personal trainer and I am just going to let you know, I don’t have any certifications! I am not a personal trainer and I have never worked one and one with somebody counting sets and reps. But a lot of people that follow me on social media now whether it’s on YouTube or Periscope or Facebook Live or they are following me on Snapchat, notice something and this is the question I get all the time, “Jimmy you are a Team Beachbody Coach. That’s home fitness. You talk about doing Power 90, that you have done multiple rounds of P90X, that I am actually a cast member in the Insanity DVDs, and I am a cast member in the PiYo DVDs, so why do I see that you go to the gym? Like can you be a Team Beachbody Coach and do gym workouts?”
Can you be a Coach without doing the workouts?
I get the same question a lot from people that I am talking to about creating an online fitness business. Maybe they are personal trainers that spend all their day in the gym. Maybe they’re big fans of things like Cross Fit or going to Orange Theory or Camp Gladiator or that they are really in the spinning class or so many other amazing fitness brands that are out there, they feel like, “I could never be a Team Beachbody Coach or I couldn’t start that business because I am really loyal to these particular kinds of workouts or I really enjoy going to the gym.”
I get that a lot from dudes like, “I kind of dig going to the gym.”
So is it really possible to be a Team Beachbody Coach, to have a successful business that impacts other people, that creates residual part time income online if you are not doing all the programs?
I really enjoy Beachbody On Demand that lets me kind of take the buffet of all the amazing programs and test them out.
And this may not be a popular topic and this may not be the PC thing to do, but I am going to say yes. It’s absolutely possible because I am living proof right now that it works.
Now I will say those programs have played a role in my life, so yes I have done Power 90 and P90X and Body Beach and Asylum, just about every program that’s come out. Now have I done them all the way through from beginning to end? No, but I have done bits and pieces. I really enjoy Beachbody On Demand that lets me kind of take the buffet of all the amazing programs and test them out now and then.
I know lots of people that actually take the Beachbody On Demand app to the gym, sets up the iPod, set up the phone, and follow along that way.
But I am not even talking about that. I am talking about if you really don’t even do the programs and I am going to say yes and this is why.
Your story is what matters
Let’s say you are really into…maybe you are a personal trainer or maybe you really enjoy your gym or you go to a studio and people watch you online that admire, “Hey, you go to that orange theory class all the time. Wow, I love the fact of what you are doing Camp Gladiator. Oh, you are that personal trainer and I love what you are doing working one on one with people.”
Well that’s great, but do you know the percentage of the people that can actually make it to that class with you? Or are even physically in the same environment you are? To work with you if you are a trainer? Or do whatever workout? They may not be in an area that they can follow you in your passion of working out in whatever specific workout you are. Maybe they don’t have a Cross Fit box next to them, but they are inspired by your story.
At the end of the day what is it we are doing? We are trying to impact people’s lives. We are trying to serve people where they are.
Now you would have an opportunity to serve people that said, “Hey, look. I know that you watch me go to the gym and you would love to come with me or work with me as a trainer or work with my trainer or whatever, but did you know that I also support people online through a fitness community and I actually have tools that you can use even if you can’t get to the specific workouts that I am doing. I can find something similar in this vast Beachbody library.”
And I think that that’s so good because at the end of the day what is it we are doing? We are trying to impact people’s lives. We are trying to serve people where they are. I look at this as my fitness evolution.
I never would have the confidence to go to the gym five to six days a week like I do now when I was getting started.
Do what works for you and gets results
The thing I loved about Power 90, the thing I loved about being able to work out at home is I was extremely self-conscious. I didn’t want to be around other people trying to get fit. I thought people, if it was valid or not, were looking at me and feeling sorry for the fat kid in the corner trying to use the machines and not knowing what he was doing.
I love the fact that Beachbody programs give people of all fitness levels a plan. So many people have a membership or they go to that spin class but they don’t know how to eat. They are just doing the same type of workout over and over again. So maybe it gives them a change up. It gives them something else to do.
Let’s say you didn’t even want to promote the workouts at all, like you just really had an issue with like, “I am Cross Fit all the time,” or “I am this kind of workout all the time,” or “I am spin all the time,” or “I am only yoga.”
Beachbody is more than the workouts
Okay let’s talk about that as well. Cool. There is still people…I bet they are going to come to you or will look at you and maybe they are going to go do yoga with you or they are going to go find a yoga studio nearby them, but that still doesn’t help their nutrition. So you can still help them with something along Beachbody’s lines of like the portion control containers, the Fixate cookbook, products like Shakeology that is your super food shake that is going to help with the nutrition.
Then on the flip side of that, I am going to talk to my Cross Fit people, I am going to talk to my marathoners, I am going to talk to my extreme athletes and stuff. You have the Beachbody Performance line that more than likely the people that are looking to you are going to the gym, they are going to GNC or Vitamin Shoppe and they are spending way too much money on things that has dyes, artificial sweeteners, and fillers that really aren’t going to get them where they wanted to go.
You have an opportunity to say, “Hey, look. If you are going to spend the money on supplements then let me introduce you to something that is super quality. That you can stand behind and be proud of.” And it allows you two fold, to serve more people, to really really have an impact. This is something you can do part time! Whatever you are doing full time, this doesn’t take a lot of time.
The people that are looking to you are going to the gym, they are going to GNC or Vitamin Shoppe and they are spending way too much money on things that has dyes, artificial sweeteners, and fillers that really aren’t going to get them where they wanted to go.
People are like, “Well, I don’t have time to be a Coach.” And I am like, “If you have time to have a conversation with somebody about fitness, you have time to do what we do because that’s just what it is.” So number one, you are impacting more people because of social media because you are watching this video right now, you and I are connected and you are not sitting in my office right now. Like we are having a conversation. I am having an impact of some kind on you, positive or negative right now.
You have the same opportunity with so many different social media channels right now to really have a significant impact that a lot of people don’t really get to enjoy in their day to day job. They make a living but they don’t feel like they really have significance or they are really having an impact on somebody’s lives.
Earn extra income by working part time
So that’s number one and number two, here is the taboo part and people don’t always talk about it, let’s talk about money. So you have a regular corporate job, whatever your job is, like you have a regular people job or you are a trainer. This is here it is, look at it. You are going to make…you work eight hours a day, nine hours a day whatever, there is a ceiling on your earning potential at your job.
If you are a trainer, you can only work with so many clients one on one throughout the day and unless you want to work fourteen hours, sixteen hour days that some trainers do, even then you could only make a limited amount of income.
Same thing for people with regular jobs. All the regular jobs I ever had, whether I was a server or a bartender or I worked at the bank or I worked in a retail or I worked in video stores or my wife was an executive assistant, at the end of the year, she didn’t get to control how much her raise was. Nine times out of ten, it was “Wow, you worked the hardest in the office but things are just kind of tight, the economy is kind of bad, we can only give you a half percent raise or one percent raise.”
And so you were going to always be at the liberty of somebody else to tell you what it is that you can make, to bring an extra income, to live the life you deserve, or to supply for your family or do those things that you really want to do. And you don’t…as a grown person, I have a hard time being capped on what I can provide for myself or my family or my quality of life.
So right now, there is such an opportunity to go, “Cool, so part time via my smart phone, I could serve other people, play a significant role in helping them impact their lives, and upgrade my life.” That’s the way I see it at the end of the day. You can do this traditionally and do all the programs. Absolutely! The programs are great! That’s what I love about this and that you don’t have to be fit or you don’t have to be a trainer or you don’t have to be a nutritionist.
I have all those types of people on my team as well; the mega trainers, the awesome nutritionists, the dietitians, the doctors on my team. They see value in this.
You can be an inspiration to others by getting in shape
But I also have the stay-at-home mom, the former actor and model, the performers, the bankers, the IT guy, the lawyer, like you just name it. All of it is are people that really say, “Look. I want to play a significant role in other people’s lives and you know what? A little extra income wouldn’t hurt either because they are not just handing out raises in the corner in this economy or any economy.”
So that’s my two cents. Take it for what you will. You know what, I am probably going to get some comments on this video that are like, “Yeah, but it’s one of those things. It’s a pyramid scheme. It’s network marketing or whatever,” You know what? I don’t know about that.
All I know is I took a chance on something and it helped me and my family get out of a $60,000 of debt, I don’t have to work that regular job anymore, and that’s not for everybody! Not everybody wants to do this full time.
So what if you love your career like so many people that I work with, but you provide a little extra to send the family on a vacation, to take care of that car note, or just to play a role in helping other people’s lives.
You can judge it or you can check it out. It’s really easy to sit on the side line and just point fingers and just assume you know what something is.
“Oh that’s this thing. That’s a scam. This doesn’t work.” I don’t know. Okay, that’s fine. I am only looking for the people that are looking for me and all I wanted to do with this video is let you know that if you are one of those people that you are like, “Man, I would love an opportunity like that, but I am really loyal to the workouts I am already doing,” that you are not excluded from making a difference in somebody else’s life and making a difference in the life of you and your family.
