I am SO proud of my wife Kelly – aka Kelly Nelson – Carpool Chic – she shared her body image issues of being called ‘Too Skinny’ on Chalene Johnson podcast.
If you have ever struggled with body image issues or being too heavy or too thin –

“Skinny” is not a compliment. Skinny, bean pole, olive oil, these words, for someone who has struggled just to fit in can be just as hurtful as it is to be called “fat”.
If you have ever said in jest to a thin person, “it must be nice” or “do you eat?” or “Why would YOU exercise?” ..”You can’t weight but 80 pounds?” You need to hear this episode and understand why a comment that might seem like a compliment can pack a punch to someone who hates feeling “different”
For many who have been thin all their lives – naturally thin – there’s an “alienation” and the implication that you’re supposed to just laugh when people comment about your weight. How could you complain?
Right?
I mean you’re thin…so how dare you have feelings or how dare you say it’s hurtful.
Pain is pain.
This story will give you some perspective!
I hope you’ll do the following
- Keep this conversation going
We need to understand it’s just wrong to shame someone for looking different… If you post this to your wall, I hope that your Facebook friends who maybe have dealt with this subject to open up and have a ‘safe’ place to be heard! I honestly think that much of the shaming we do to each other is unintentional. With an open heart and real conversation, we can put a stop to all body shaming.
