How to Not Gain Sympathy Weight During Pregnancy

She’s Pregnant, What’s YOUR Excuse?

For those of you that don’t know, my wife and I are going to be welcoming our second child pretty soon and the pregnancy cravings are in full swing. I’ve gone through this once before with my son so I’ve learned how to stay fit the hard way. There are hundreds of articles out there telling women how they can lose weight after pregnancy or gain healthy weight during, but there’s nothing helping the guys out. Well, I’m here to save you with these tips that’ll teach you how to not gain sympathy weight during pregnancy. Set an awesomely positive example for your child before they ever see you.

They’re Her Cravings, Not Yours

Just because she’s having General Tso’s Chicken with lo mein doesn’t mean that you have to. There are plenty of healthier alternatives on the menu to choose from. Your significant other is filling their craving and enjoying your company. They’re happy! Pick something you won’t regret later. The ball’s in your court.

Join a Support Community

Surrounding yourself with positive encouragement, and a healthy dose of accountability, during your significant other’s pregnancy was a lifesaver during my wife’s first pregnancy and you’d better believe that I’ve done the same thing once again! Having like minded people keeping you on the straight and narrow will keep the inches off your waistline and you cruising to your goals.

Set a Goal & Work Towards It

Having an event or goal off in the distance will give you something to work for outside of just being healthy. I know it sounds silly, but I’ve seen it time and time again. People that set a goal, whether it’s a 5k, Tough Mudder, or just a weekly pick up game, stay on track and hit their goals far more often than those who don’t.
