Hey everyone! I wanted to take a moment to share this Periscope I did over the weekend because making time for your rest days is just as important as putting in the work in the gym. If you’re depriving your body of valuable rest time, you’re sabotaging your growth and weight loss goals. Listen to your body. If it’s telling you to rest, shut it down and take it easy. There’s no shame in it. You’ll feel so much better after resting that you’ll be able to jump right back in with both feet the next day. Trust me, it’s worth it.
For the readers out there (or if the video happens to freak out), you can check out the full transcript below.
That’s kind of cool hey! Getting set up here, thank you so much for stopping in! For those of you watching the re-play, you could still tap it up on the side over here; give up some hearts, we appreciate hearts, plus it lets me know whatever I’m talking about, your finding value in. So, I’m actually gonna adjust my camera just a minute so it’s not all painting above my head, I may be stuck here – ok cool this will work, you can admire the painting above me as well!
So, it’s a Saturday right and it’s this weekend and thank you guys for coming in, thank you so much for the hearts already, this is awesome! This scopes not going to be very long because I am starving and I’m gonna go eat here in just one second, but I thought it was vital tip that I wanted to share with you guys! So it’s the weekend and a lot of times for those in a fitness journey of some kind the weekend is an off day, either Saturday or Sunday or you know just Sunday? So for those of you just popping on here is that, normally – do you take – do you have a scheduled a “rest day” every day of the week? Is it Sunday is it Saturday? Football is here and I’m just gonna go jump into that here in just a second. Sunday is your off day, I like – so that’s awesome!
Anybody else? That’s normally my Sundays. Got veggie says, “Sunday’s” as well. Use Sunday as a rest day and for some that means they don’t do anything, maybe that’s a stretch day; Tuesday that’s you know – for a long time I used to try to make my rest day mid-week. JP said the same thing because sometimes I would get worn down in the middle of week with work or whatever else and my body needed to rest then. Trace said that all weekend long he’s like, “Peace guys it’s football I’m grabbing a beer and hit the couch!” That’s awesome too and I think so many people now with football starting this weekend, are gonna go that route as well.
So, one thing I wanted to say, you know and I titled this thing, “The Rest Day Tip I Learned from Chalene Johnson That I was Doing by Accident”, so those of you that know Chalene like she’s my home girl she’s my friend, she’s my business coach but so many people know her as like a celebrity fitness trainer as well right? And maybe you’ve done Turbo Jam or Turbo Kick class or Chalene Extreme, you know Turbo Fire and then obviously my personal favorite when it comes to Chalene is PiYo and I had the privilege of being in the PiYo DVDs with Chalene. She was so much fun to work with and the other day I was watching one of her scopes, and if you’re not following her please, do you and in fact she was just voted – there was an article written and they talked about the top – I forget 5-10 people on periscope, like business people that you should follow she was flipping and ranked number one which doesn’t surprise me because she finds a new social media outlet and she just attacks it and kills it! So if you’re not following Chalene, go follow her!
She just goes and if there’s a morning where she’s just not feeling it and her body says this is the rest day, and she said she does and I was like holy smokes I do that same thing!
So the other day she was talking about sleep patterns and your brain and stuff a lot lately and she was talking about that she schedules seven days of work-out’s but then just takes her rest day – she kind off listens to her body like if there’s one morning – she’s an early riser like I am right gets up and I think she teaches a couple of classes at like 5:30 in the morning I’m a 6 a.m. workout guy, and she said she just goes and if there’s a morning where she’s just not feeling it and her body says this is the rest day, and she said she does and I was like holy smokes I do that same thing because there’s nothing more frustrating than a scheduled rest day and you wake up with a ton of energy and you’re like, “I wanna go throw around some weights”.
Because muscle growth happens in rest and your body gets a chance to recharge and grow and the change actually happens during the rest period.
This morning I went outside and it’s gorgeous here in Dallas and I’m not a big runner but I went for a run on a trail with a bunch of people and it was cool and like be a part of the community and trudge along and get real sweaty but I was like there’s nothing more frustrating than when you’re like, “Ok, I know rest is good for me right” because muscle growth happens in rest and your body gets a chance to recharge and grow and the change actually happens during the rest right – that when you’re lifting weights, you’re doing your cardio, then you’re actually tearing your body down and the growth you know when you’re losing that body fat when you’re putting on that kakaaa, like the muscle right that happens in the rest.
So, I would feel guilty sometimes because if I wake up on a Sunday and go, “I really in the mood to go to an arms routine or I would love to throw in you know, some PiYo or like I said go for a run” and I’m like, “I know I’m supposed to go rest;” so I flipped it I was like look seven days are gonna be scheduled and some days are scheduled, I know exactly what I’m doing and Saturday and Sunday are usually like wild card days because if I decided my body told me like yesterday was Friday yesterday I walked into the gym with every intention to do a killer chest and shoulders routine and I got in there and I got started and I’m like no, I’m just not feeling it and that’s so rare for me so I just shut it down. I was like alright I’ve only been in here for about 15 minutes but my body is saying it needs some rest, and so I took the day off came back did the run today I’m gonna kick it off and do some PiYo tomorrow.
Yesterday was Friday yesterday and I walked into the gym with every intention to do a killer chest and shoulders routine. I got in there and I got started and I’m like “No, I’m just not feeling it,” and that’s so rare for me so I just shut it down.
And that way you have that flexibility that when that day when you wake up and your body’s like we need rest we need rest to recharge you can listen to your body immediately just like that go OK boom and know your gonna make it up and you’re still just getting that one rest day a week but you’re getting that rest, you’re getting the growth, you’re getting that time to recharge like you need it and still kill your other workouts so you’re not overtraining right? And so that way you don’t feel guilty those days that you’re like, “Man I’m not feeling it!” And you have to force yourself through the work out and maybe injury happens, then, or you strain something. You have the flexibility to go “Okay thank you body and I’m listening to you, this is the time I’m going to take a rest!” And you can kick it back next time as well.
You have that flexibility that when that day when you wake up and your body’s like we need rest we need rest to recharge you can listen to your body.
So I just wanted to share that with you, I was kinda doing that by accident and just thought I kinda made that up and then Chalene said she did the same thing. I was like ok there is a chick that knows her stuff, that’s super fitness professional that knows her stuff. That’s where being surrounded by knowledgeable fitness people that are really going to help you. It helps me when I surround myself with successful people that know about health and fitness that have walked a path and have gotten the result it helps me! And so it’s the same thing that I do for the people that I get an opportunity to mentor. For those that don’t know me that have jumped on here for the first time Thank You! First of all for popping on here for sharing this broadcast for taping up the screen and giving hearts.
For those who don’t know me, my name is Jimmy Hays Nelson. For people here in Dallas Texas, people call me Coach Jimmy and I used to weigh 100 pounds heavier. I was a hundred pounds overweight right and I lost that weight and I’ve kept it off for over 10 years and now I teach those tips and techniques to other people and I support them in private facebook groups where they get access to me on a daily basis, we find the perfect workout system for them, we set up a nutrition plan and any supplements they may need depending on what their needs are. Instead of trying to cram everybody into one plan, right we come in and say what are you looking to do and then I set up their plan and then we work together for anywhere from three weeks to 90 days depending on their goals and I’m literally looking for people to do that with. I’m gonna set up people, start putting them in the group, start putting their plan together so we can all hit the ground running in October. It’s really a funny time of year right now that you’ve got to be away that here is a really awesome opportunity for you to take control of your health and fitness right now because at the end of October, when the holiday season starts, if you haven’t already started some healthy habits by then you’re gonna shut it down and just scrap the rest of 2015 and say I’ll see you in January when everybody else makes bullshit resolutions because they’re like, “Oh it’s already the holiday season, I might as well eat” which is the biggest cop-out in the world.
But, you here have an opportunity right now to team up with me before this holiday season starts, to start some healthy new habits and you know what we’re gonna go through the holidays together and you’re gonna enjoy your Halloween candy and you’re gonna get your turkey and stuffing and pumpkin pie and your gonna enjoy your Christmas treats. I’m not going to tell you can’t have those, we’re going to do the work now and I’m gonna show you how to incorporate those things in your lifestyle so you’re not one of those people that gained 25 pounds over the holidays but we gotta get started now.
So if you’ve watch this and your like, “Man I wish I had people like that my life!” You know I was telling you what I’ve learned from Chalene and how she’s somebody that I learned from. So if your, “I wish I had somebody like that, that could support me that I can learn from,” then you and I need to work together and this is what you’re going to do right now you’re going to email me and tell me that you are interested, that you want to be in my support group, that you would like to have a one-on-one consultation with me, and that you want to get in this group because you know you need the support to get started now. And by getting started now, we’re gonna have a successful holiday season as well so this is what you do email me jimmy@thecoachjimmy.com, one more time, its super easy jimmy@thecoachjimmy.com. The subject line is gonna be “support group” and it is an application process, I can’t take everybody I can only work with people that are serious about getting started, that they’re willing to take steps with me so in that email, your gonna tell me why you are perfect for this support group that I only have a few spots for. I’m only looking for people that are really ready to take some steps with me so I’m excited to work with you though. I’m excited to learn more about you, see what your goals are and then tailor something specifically just for you so you and I can help you get amazing results so last time jimmy@thecoachjimmy.com simply let me know I’m wanna be in the support group this is why I’m perfect for it and you and I are gonna make this fall holidays – and you won’t even think about weight loss and fitness as a resolution because you are already going to be on that train. That momentum is going to be running and your gonna fly right past January first so thank you guys for hanging out thank you for hearting up, thank you for the follow, and thank you for sharing. Until next time, my names Coach Jimmy and I’ll talk to you soon!
