Today we’re talking about fasting – we’re talking about being flippin’ hungry, which I am, right this second.
“Why are you hungry, Jimmy? You’re in your kitchen, just grab something to eat.
You are probably wondering, “Why are you hungry, Jimmy? You’re in your kitchen, just grab something to eat. And what is all that behind you?” I’m going to get to that. So I have always been a guinea pig with my diet. I have the 100 lb weight loss story, but I have always been willing to try new things. I have been vegan, I have done raw, I have been primal, paleo, everything in between. From eating a kind of a body building menu, to, like I said, raw food, which was nutrient dense but the calories were really low. I have always been willing to try new things, just to experiment to see what works best for me, because I honestly feel different body types adapt to different things better.
Intermittent Fasting
So I was recently introduced to the concept of intermittent fasting by my friend Melissa McCalister. It is something I have heard about before, and my friend Melissa has always been crazy ripped, so I was always like, “so what do you do different.”
She never really told me anything. Then we got to talking about how she gets all her calories in an 8 hour window. She has a podcast with my friend Chalene Johnson, and they talk about intermittent fasting in detail. So, I’m like, “hell I’m game. I’ll try this.”
So the trick with this is figuring out where the 8 hour window in your day is that you are going to get all your food in. And I’m like I will give this a test for a couple of weeks. Am I going to do this for my life, I don’t know, but I’ll give it a shot.
So I Got to Thinking.
I am an early riser and an early workout guy. I went to a spin class at 5:45 this morning. The flip side of that is working out so early, if I start eating early in the day, I have to stop early. So let’s say I start eating at 6. That means I would stop eating at 2. That means I would have the senior citizen discount at Luby’s for dinner. And any social aspect of my life is out the window. So I thought, well I am a pretty social dude, I like to go out or have people over for dinner. What if my window is 11 to 7. And it seemed like that was the most popular window.
I am Punch-You-In-The-Face Hungry Right right now…
11 to 7 is great, except right now it is almost 9 o clock in the morning and I am punch you in the face hungry right now. I am just going to be really honest. It’s a good thing you’re not here right now… because I want to punch you in the face!
But there are a few things I found that you are allowed to sip on to try to curve those hungers. I am not saying this is for everybody. There are studies for this and studies against it, so I would love to hear your experience with this in the comments below. So, like I said, I am just testing it out because waiting 3 or 4 hours after a workout is something really new to me and some people say you lose muscle, while some say you won’t. So, again, I am willing to test anything. Some things you are allowed to intake just to curb your hunger a little bit.
- Good old fashioned coffee.
I am not a big coffee guy. I don’t like hot beverages. So, what my wife does is she makes the coffee in the morning and sets me out a cold cup of coffee. Normally I use this cold cup of coffee to mix in my Shakeology to have later in the day to have like a chocolate mocha flavor but I will give it to you coffee drinkers, it does curb the appetite for a little bit. - Branch Chain Amino Acidso
The other thing that is allowed is branch chain amino acids. I happen to use these from MRN, and the only reason I chose these is that it was the only one I could find that didn’t have sucrolose or an artificial sweetener in it. Props to the MRN people for their branch chain amino acids that are suppose to be helpful.I also found one from Vega. I am a big fan of theirs. This electrolyte hydrator is just electrolytes, but has zero calories and no artificial sweetener.Another one I really liked that is sweetened with Stevia is Ultima Replenshier. This one does have a few calories but I have been told that if you keep it minimal calories that it is OK. So, that is kind of what I am drinking here in this red tumbler. And if you are not a coffee drinker, since caffeine has always been a way to suppress hunger, I have always enjoyed Energy and Endurance, otherwise known as E & E, from Beachbody. Again, some calories are OK. I just do one scoop instead of two, but two scoops are only 20 calories, and I have been told that is OK.
Have you tried this?
Man, I am hungry! I just thought I would make a video to get my mind off the hunger. So, have you done this? Give me your feedback.
I have heard people can get crazy ripped with this, and I am coming off a summer where I indulged quite a bit. I feel a little fluffy in the mid section from too many parties at the pool, a few too many cocktails, tequila, late nights out, etc. So I just wanted to see if this works to give me a boost.
I want to know: Do you do intermittent fasting? Have you tried it? How were your results? Let me know in the comments below. In the mean time, I will keep you updated on whether I murder somebody from being this hungry, or do I see awesome results and adjust my schedule and habits and love this later on. Let me know, comment below, later!
