Stories to Make You Smile

by Coach Jimmy Hays Nelson Usually I pop on here to let you know something that is on my heart, or share a funny anecdote from my family that taught me a lesson.   But today I want to tell you some amazing stories of others!  I’ve had the privilege of working with each of these individuals.  Their stories and accomplishments are just too amazing not to share! Bryan and Brandy M. are two of my favorite people.  These crazy Cajuns got to a point that their careers kept them so busy that they had neglected to take care of themselves.  Not only had their fitness level lowered, but their stress level was through the roof.  Since plugging into our support system, they have been given a new joy and passion.  INSANITY, P90X, Body Beast, and now Les Mills Combat along with their favorite chocolate treat keep their energy levels at…

One Day Maybe

by Kelly Songy Nelsongy Saturday morning, Jimmy and I found ourselves kid-free for a few hours!  Asher went to play with his Nana and Gramps which allowed us to get the house straightened, do laundry, weekly food prep and workout!  I was in our closet changing into my workout clothes when I noticed a box at the top of our closet.  I call this box my “one day maybe” box.  With pregnancy and then now post baby, I’ve gained and lost 59 pounds, so I have a box of clothes that one day maybe I’ll fit back into. Just for kicks, I decided to pull the box down.  I figured it would give me motivation for my workout!  In the box were three pencil skirts that I used to wear when I worked for a hedge fund in NYC.  Super sassy skirts that I was so bummed to grow out…

The Storm Before the Calm

by Kelly Songy Nelson Life is full of ebbs and flows. I find, and many of you may find, that my times for working out are a big ebb and flow area of my life.  Right now, in the heart of the summer, it may be tough to stick with your workout program or your nutrition plan.  I fell off the workout wagon about three weeks ago.  No real reason why – just one morning off turned into 3 weeks off (I’m very much a routine-driven person). This morning I took a moment to reflect on life without working out.  My husband, Coach Jimmy, is SUPER disciplined with his workouts – most days he gets in two workouts thanks to having workouts that we are able to do from home!  I admire his dedication and discipline so much and he’s been such a great motivator and inspiration for me.  He…

What’s in My JEANS is Not in My GENES

Weight Gain and Genetics By Kelly Songy Nelson I am a Cajun from New Orleans, so I know what good food tastes like!  I grew up there and partook in all of the yumminess the city has to offer.  I knew five food groups: carbs, fried, fatty, battered and buttered.  New Orleans is a very culture driven city; lots of amazing chefs are from New Orleans, yet we don’t know how to feed our children things that will actually keep them healthy. I have to start out by saying that I was better off than most kids.  My Mom is an AMAZING cook and we had home cooked meals EVERY DAY.  Eating out was considered a treat and was usually a family outing to Pizza Hut for report card night.  I have a twin sister and we were sick growing up (had a skin disease that affected our muscles).  We…

Good News – Diets and Workouts are a Waste of Your Time!

By Coach Jimmy Hays Nelson   Yep, you read that title correctly.  More and more studies have come out that say over half of the people who start diets or workouts quit.  Think about how many people made the New Year’s resolution to lose weight.  Maybe you are one of those people.  Well it’s only been 4 months since the first of the year, how many of those people are still on their weight loss plan?  I would bet my money that the majority of them have quit. The saddest part of this scenario is the wasted money and time that was invested initially.  Maybe you joined a gym, bought a program like P90X or INSANITY, or spent money on a food plan like Jenny Craig. You know what?  I have to interrupt this blog post.  I have too much to say about this to capture it via print.   This…

Simple Tips to Help Prevent Sympathy Weight Gain

Just because she is gaining weight, doesn’t mean you have to! By Coach Jimmy Hays Nelson I have noticed there are a ton of blogs, articles, and books for women on how to prevent too much weight gain during their pregnancy. Or how to lose the baby weight after they have given birth.  But what about the men?!?! It was a little over a year ago when I found myself in that exact position!  My wife and I were expecting our first child. Everything about pregnancy and all the things that come with it was totally new and foreign to me.  All I knew is that I wanted to be the good, supportive husband and make my wife’s experience as smooth as possible. I had heard funny stories of crazy cravings. (Who hasn’t heard a good pickles and ice cream pregnancy joke?) But they definitely came fast and furiously.  The…
